The president was the leader of the League of Communists of Croatia (LCC), the ruling party of the Socialist Republic of Croatia (SRC) in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Party rules stipulated that the LCC Central Committee elected the president. Moreover, the Central Committee was empowered to remove the president. The president served ex officio as a member of the Presidency of the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia (LCY) and of the SRC Presidency. To be eligible to serve, the president had to be a member of the Presidency of the LCC Central Committee. The 9th LCC Congress instituted a two-year term limits for officeholders.

Lily Sosa de Newton was an Argentine historian, biographer and essayist. She was a pioneer in historical research on relevant Argentine women in different fields. She also wrote numerous biographies of historical figures.

The Deutsche Biographische Enzyklopädie (DBE) is a biographical dictionary published by Walther Killy and Rudolf Vierhaus, the first edition of which was published from 1995 to 2003 in 13 volumes by K. G. Saur Verlag. Between 2005 and 2008 a second twelve-volume, revised and extended edition was published.

RILM Music Encyclopedias(RME) is an electronic collection of music reference works from 1775 to the present from Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale. RME expands every year by three to five titles.

The Kürschners Handbücher, originally published by Joseph Kürschner (1853–1902), is a series of biographical reference works. Many entries are based on self information.
