Bill Bedenbaugh (born August 21, 1972) is an American football coach and former player. He is the current offensive line coach at the University of Oklahoma. He was the offensive line coach starting in 2013 and was promoted to co-OC prior to the 2017 season. Bedenbaugh is a spread offense offensive line coach from the Mike Leach coaching tree.

Coaching career

Early Coaching Career

Bedenbaugh began his coaching career as the offensive line coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University in 1995. He lived in the dorms and made $150 a week. [1]

Valdosta State

After that, he moved on to Valdosta State as the offensive line coach for the 1996 season. [2]

Central Michigan

From there, Bedenbaugh joined the Central Michigan staff as a graduate assistant during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. [2]

Ferris State

In 1999, Bedenbaugh was the offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator at Ferris State in Michigan. In his lone season, he was named Footballscoop.com's division II Coordinator of the Year. [3]

Texas Tech

Following his success at Ferris State, Bedenbaugh joined up with his college coach, Mike Leach, at Texas Tech as a graduate assistant. He spent 2000-2002 as a GA before being promoted to running backs coach for 2003 and 2004, and then 2005 and 2006 as offensive line coach. [4]

Arizona

In 2007, Bedenbaugh joined Arizona as offensive line coach. In the last year of his four-year stint, he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator. [4]

West Virginia

In 2011, Bedenbaugh was hired by his former Iowa Wesleyan teammate Dana Holgorsen as the offensive line coach for the West Virginia Mountaineers. He held this post for two seasons. [4]

Oklahoma

Bob Stoops hired Bedenbaugh to be the offensive line coach at Oklahoma prior to the 2013 season. Following Stoops’ retirement, and Lincoln Riley’s subsequent promotion to head coach in the summer of 2017, Riley promoted Bedenbaugh to co-offensive coordinator. [3]

Playing career

Bill Bedenbaugh was a four-year starter on the offensive line playing center at Iowa Wesleyan for head coach Hal Mumme and offensive coordinator Mike Leach. He played from 1991-1994. [3]

Personal life

Bedenbaugh is a native of St. Charles, Illinois and is married to Maryde, who is from Tahlequah, Oklahoma. [3] They met during Bedenbaugh's stint at Oklahoma Panhandle State. [1]

Charles Franklin Long Jr. is an American football coach and former player who is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Arlington Renegades of the United Football League (UFL). He played as a quarterback in college for the Iowa Hawkeyes under coach Hayden Fry and professionally with the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. After his professional career, Long was an assistant coach at Iowa and Oklahoma before serving as the head football coach for the San Diego State Aztecs. Long also held a position as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas Jayhawks under head coach Turner Gill. Michael Joseph Stoops is an American football coach and former player, who is the inside linebackers coach at the University of Kentucky. Stoops also served as the head football coach at the University of Arizona from 2003 until his firing during the 2011 season. He previously served as an assistant football coach at the University of Iowa, Kansas State University, and University of Oklahoma. He is the younger brother of Bob Stoops, the former head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners football program, and the older brother of Mark Stoops, head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats football program. He returned to Oklahoma as the defensive coordinator in 2012. He served in the position until he was fired on October 7, 2018. After spending time at the University of Alabama as an analyst, he spent one season as the defensive coordinator of the Florida Atlantic Owls in 2021.

Michael Charles Leach was an American college football coach who primarily coached at the NCAA Division I FBS level. He was a two-time national coach of the year, three-time conference coach of the year and the mastermind behind the NCAA record-setting air raid offense. He was the head coach at Texas Tech University from 2000 to 2009, where he became the winningest coach in school history. After Texas Tech, he coached at Washington State University from 2012 to 2019, where he recorded the third-most wins of any coach in school history. He then coached at Mississippi State University from 2020 until his death in 2022.

The 2016 Oklahoma Sooners football team represented the University of Oklahoma in the 2016 NCAA Division I FBS football season, the 122nd season of Sooner football. The 2017 Oklahoma Sooners football team represented the University of Oklahoma in the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season, the 123rd season of Sooner football. The team was led by Lincoln Riley, who was in his first year as head coach, after the retirement of Bob Stoops in June 2017. They played their home games at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. They are a charter member of the Big 12 Conference.

Alexander Gregory Grinch is an American football coach who previously served as the defensive coordinator at the University of Southern California (USC), the University of Oklahoma, Ohio State University and Washington State University. Grinch is a four-time nominee for the Broyles Award and was a semifinalist in 2017 and 2019. Grinch has also served as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri, the University of Wyoming, and the University of New Hampshire.
