Billy Wayne Montgomery, also known as Coach Montgomery (born July 7,1937),is a former educator who represented the Bossier City-based District 9 in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1988-2008. He was elected as a Democrat,but he switched affiliation to the Republican Party on October 3,2006.
On August 6,2016,Montgomery and four others were inducted into the Ark-La-Tex Sports Museum of Champions at the Shreveport Convention Center. Since its opening in 2007 through 2015,132 persons had already been selected for this honor. Inducted with Montgomery are Ray Germany,a Louisiana Tech Bulldogs basketball All-American in 1959 and 1960 who resides in Haughton;Mickey Slaughter,a former Denver Broncos quarterback and Louisiana Tech football coach;hot air balloonist Bill Bussey,a dentist from Longview,Texas,and the professional golf caddie Freddie C. Burns Sr.,an African-American from Shreveport,who for thirty-eight years was associated with Hal Sutton. [1] [2]
Montgomery graduated from Provencal High School in Natchitoches Parish,Louisiana. He received a bachelors in 1959 and masters degree from Northwestern State College. He also studied at Louisiana Tech University,Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and the Northeast Louisiana University. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1964.

Baton Rouge Magnet High School is a public magnet school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States, founded in 1880. It is part of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System with a student body of approximately 1500 students. The current building was built in 1926, and, as Baton Rouge High School, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The campus underwent a two-year renovation and expansion starting in 2010, resulting in the addition of two new wings to the main building. This renovation was completed and the school reopened in fall 2012. Baton Rouge High is also one of the highest-ranked schools in the state, and consistently wins state-level academic competitions. The school requires students to pass enrollment standards and exceed graduation standards. As a result, nearly all graduating students attend college.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs football team represents Louisiana Tech University in college football at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level. After 12 seasons in the Western Athletic Conference, Louisiana Tech began competing as a member of Conference USA in 2013. Since 1968, the Bulldogs have played their home games at Joe Aillet Stadium. Since its first season in 1901, Louisiana Tech has compiled an all-time record of 642 wins, 498 losses, and 38 ties. Milton Eugene "Mickey" Slaughter was an American professional football player and college coach. He played quarterback for the Denver Broncos of the American Football League (AFL) after playing college ball for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Following his playing career, he was an assistant coach for Louisiana Tech.

The Red River State Fair Classic was an American college football game played annually in Shreveport, Louisiana, at Independence Stadium—formerly called State Fair Stadium—during the State Fair of Louisiana. It traced its historical lineage from a series of 167 games played over the 106 football seasons between 1911 and 2016. By having first paired historically black colleges and universities in 1915, the contest held the distinction of being the oldest documented annual black college football classic, edging out the Turkey Day Classic by nine years and the similar Texas State Fair Classic by ten years.

In 2001, the Caddo Parish School Board renamed the football stadium at Captain Shreve High School in Hedges' honor. In 2010, he was elected to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches.

From 2001 to 2006, she served as the vice chair of the House's Commerce Committee; in 2007, she was appointed to the Louisiana House Appropriations Committee, and from 2008 to 2012, she served as the vice chair of the Retirement Committee.
