Black Star Co-op is a community-owned brewpub co-op in Austin, Texas. It is the first brewpub to operate under the Cooperative Principles. [1] It opened its doors in 2010 [2] and as of 2021 has over 3,000 members. [3] It supports an on-site brewery as well as a restaurant and beer bar in Austin.

History

The co-op first met in January 2006 with sixteen people in attendance. By 2010, the growing organization raised more than $325,000 and found a location to begin operations. Black Star brews two groups of beers, the "rational" and "irrational". Rational beers are types beer drinkers may be familiar with and made with mostly traditional ingredients. Irrational beers are experimental and innovative with flavors not everyone may find palatable. [4]

The Boulder Beer Company was Colorado's first microbrew and the forty-third licensed brewery in the United States. It was founded on September 25, 1979 by David Hummer, Alvin Nelson, and Randolf Ware. Ware and Hummer were physics professors at the University of Colorado Boulder and home brewers. When the laws surrounding home brewing were relaxed, the brewery originally started on a farm in a "goatshack."

Yakima Brewing & Malting Co, also known as Grant's Brewery Pub, was a brewpub founded by Bert Grant in Yakima, Washington. With its opening in 1982, it was regarded as the first in the United States since Prohibition. The company produced beer independently or under a parent through 2004.

The production of beer in New Jersey has been in a state of recovery since Prohibition (1919-1933) and the Great Depression (1929-1945). Currently, the state has 123 licensed breweries: a large production brewery owned by an international beverage company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, and 122 independent microbreweries and 19 brewpubs. The growth of the microbreweries and brewpubs since the 1990s has been aided by the loosening of the state's licensing restrictions and strict alcohol control laws, many of which were a legacy of Prohibition.

Artisan's Brewery is a brewpub in Toms River in Ocean County, New Jersey. The brewery opened to the public in 1997, and was originally known as Basil T's Brew Pub, being a second location for Basil T's Brewery in Red Bank. Artisan's was purchased by new owners in 2001, and assumed its current name in 2010. The brewery produces 300 barrels of beer per year.

Basil T's Brewery was a brewpub in Red Bank in Monmouth County, New Jersey. In 1987 Victor Rallo Jr., his brother and late father opened and Italian restaurant, then converted into a brewpub 1996. The brewery opened a second location in Toms River in 1997, which was later sold and renamed Artisan's Brewery. The brewery produces 650 barrels of beer per year. In 2014 the owners re-opened as Birravino.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Keweenaw Brewing Company</span> Craft brewery in Michigan

The Keweenaw Brewing Company (KBC) is a craft brewer with a taproom in Houghton and a production facility in nearby South Range, Michigan. It is named for the Keweenaw Peninsula, which projects out to the north of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
