He first rose to fame with his 2018 single "Valentino", which became his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. It was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and prompted his signing of a recording contract from Barry Weiss' RECORDS, an imprint of Columbia Records. His July 2020 follow-up single, "Mood" earned further success as it peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 and served as the lead single for his debut studio album El Dorado (2021), which saw modest commercial performance.
