The Boston Rockhoppers were an American indoor lacrosse team based in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Formerly a member of the North American Lacrosse League, the Rockhoppers played their home games at New England Sports Center. [1]

On June 18, 2013, the Rockhoppers and the rest of the North American Lacrosse League announced that they would be suspending operations.

History

The franchise was announced as an expansion member of the North American Lacrosse League on January 14, 2012. [2] Originally scheduled to be a 2013 expansion team, due to initial struggles and as a result of the NALL and PLL split, the Rockhoppers moved up their first season to 2012. [3]

On March 2, 2012 the Rockhoppers faced-off against the Kentucky Stickhorses in the first game between two NALL franchises. The Stickhorses won 19-14. [4] The two teams opened the 2013 season, with the Rockhoppers winning 10-9. [5]

After leading the league in goals per game with 16, they played in the championship game against the Kentucky Stickhorses. [6]

Cannons Lacrosse Club

The Cannons Lacrosse Club are a Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) professional men's field lacrosse team formerly based in Boston, Massachusetts. They played in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) from their inaugural 2001 season up until the league merged with PLL and won two Steinfeld Cup championship games. Gregory Lawrence Bice is an American lacrosse player who wears number 44 for the Ohio Machine in Major League Lacrosse. He typically plays as a long pole defenseman, but can also be used as a midfielder (middy).

Anthony Kelly is a retired professional lacrosse player that played on the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the MLL. He has also played for the Rochester Knighthawks and New York Titans in the NLL, the Kentucky Stickhorses in the NALL, and the Los Angeles Riptide, Chicago Machine, Rochester Rattlers, Ohio Machine, and Denver Outlaws of the MLL. He is a faceoff specialist and won a Bronze Medal with U.S. Men's National Indoor Team in 2007. He retired in April 2018.

George Castle from Glenside, Pennsylvania, is an American lacrosse player previously with the Philadelphia Wings of National Lacrosse League. He is a defensive midfielder. A William Penn Charter School graduate, Castle played collegiate lacrosse with the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays where he helped his team win two national championships.

North American Lacrosse League

The North American Lacrosse League (NALL) was a professional indoor lacrosse league based in the United States. It was founded in 2011 as North America's fourth professional lacrosse league, after American Lacrosse League Major League Lacrosse and the National Lacrosse League. However, a rift in the organization led to the departure of four of the five teams to form the Professional Lacrosse League. After playing only one "full" season that was plagued with canceled games, a franchise folding, and players not showing up for games, the leagues folded.

Pennsylvania Shamrocks

The Pennsylvania Shamrocks were an American professional indoor lacrosse team based in Pennsylvania. They were a charter member of the Professional Lacrosse League (PLL). They were previously known as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Shamrocks and planned to play in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area before losing their lease to the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Charlotte Copperheads

The Charlotte Copperheads were an American professional indoor lacrosse team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. They are a charter member of the Professional Lacrosse League (PLL) and began play in the 2012 season with their home games at the Bojangles' Coliseum.

The Kentucky Stickhorses were an American indoor lacrosse team based in Louisville, Kentucky. They were formerly a member of the North American Lacrosse League, before the league's demise after the 2013 season. The Stickhorses played their home games at Freedom Hall.

The league originated in a split with the North American Lacrosse League (NALL). The league ended after a year, in 2013.

Eventually, due to the Bombers folding after only seven games, the rest of the regular season was canceled on March 11, and the championship game was moved to March 16.

The Baltimore Bombers were an American indoor lacrosse team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They were a member of the North American Lacrosse League. The Bombers played their home games at Clarence H. "Du" Burns Arena in the Baltimore City neighborhood of Canton.

Rhode Island Kingfish

The Rhode Island Kingfish was an American indoor lacrosse team based in Kingston, Rhode Island. They were a member of the North American Lacrosse League. During 2013 season the Kingfish were scheduled for a limited 6 game road schedule. Due to the Baltimore Bombers folding mid-season the Kingfish only played 4 games, and posted zero wins on the season.

The 2017 Major League Lacrosse season was the 17th season of Major League Lacrosse. Featuring the same nine teams as 2016, the season began on April 22. In a rematch of the 2016 championship game, the Ohio Machine defeated the Denver Outlaws 17–12, capturing their first Steinfeld Cup in franchise history.
