Bruce William Kannemeyer is a South African politician and public servant who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2004,serving the Western Cape. Since leaving the assembly in November 2004,he has worked in local public administration. In 2006,he was convicted of stealing from Parliament in the Travelgate scandal.
Kannemeyer was first elected to the National Assembly in the 1999 general election,representing the ANC in the Western Cape constituency. [1] He served on the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Mail &Guardian alleged that he was key in the ANC caucus's efforts to divert the committee's inquiry into the Arms Deal. [2] [3]
He was re-elected to his legislative seat in April 2004. [4] However,by that time,he was simultaneously working part-time in local government in the Western Cape –he chaired the audit committees in both Boland and Drakenstein [5] –and on 1 November 2004 he resigned from Parliament to join local government full-time. [6] Bongani Mkongi filled his seat in the National Assembly. [6]
Kannemeyer became municipal manager at Stellenbosch Local Municipality,which at the time was governed in a coalition between the ANC and New National Party. [7] While he was still in that position,in January 2006,the Scorpions announced that they intended to prosecute Kannemeyer on criminal charges arising from his tenure in Parliament:he was accused of having defrauded Parliament in the Travelgate saga. [8] [9] His first court appearance was on 16 February in the Cape High Court. [10]
In October 2016,Kannemeyer accepted a plea deal with prosecutors and pled guilty to one count of theft pertaining to R70,000 in unlawfully claimed service benefits. He was sentenced to pay a fine of R40,000 or serve three years' imprisonment,in addition to a mandatory prison sentence of five years suspended conditionally. [11] He elected to pay the fine. [12] In the aftermath of his conviction,he acknowledged that he "should have been more alert" to avoid participating in the fraud,and said:
There will be some who will be unforgiving. But I hope people will judge me on the balance of my total contribution –and not just reduce me to the thief the court has made me. I hope there is space to have a second chance. [13]
He remained in Stellenbosch until after the 2006 local elections,when the opposition Democratic Alliance took control of the municipality in a new coalition. In July 2006,the municipality announced that it intended to terminate Kannemeyer's contract "unilaterally,based on political grounds" but would pay him the R1.8 million due to him in salary for the remainder of his term. [14] He subsequently became municipal manager at OR Tambo District Municipality in the Eastern Cape [15] and then at Phumelela Local Municipality and Ngwathe Local Municipality in the Free State. [16]
Beauty Nomvuzo Dlulane is a South African politician who has been a Member of Parliament (MP) for the African National Congress since 1997,having spent time in both houses. She was re-elected to the National Assembly in 2019.
Patrick Dumile Nono Maloyi is a South African politician who has been Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Human Settlement,Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the North West province since November 2022. In August 2022,he was elected Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West,a position he formerly held from 2008 to 2009. His former positions include Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature (2009–2012) and MEC for Human Settlement and Public Safety (2012–2014),and he has also served in the National Assembly.
Thamsanqa China Dodovu is a South African politician who is currently serving as a Delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. He was formerly the Mayor of Klerksdorp's Matlosana Local Municipality and served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Traditional Affairs in the North West provincial government from May 2012 until June 2013. Dodovu is a member of the African National Congress and served as the party's Deputy Provincial Chairperson in the North West from 2011 to 2015.
Rhoda Joemat was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1999 until 2005,when she was convicted of defrauding Parliament during the Travelgate scandal. A former anti-apartheid activist,she also served as Provincial Treasurer of the ANC's Western Cape branch from 1998 to 2001.
Comely Humphrey Maqocwa Maxegwana is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2014 until 2019,when he failed to gain re-election. Before that,he represented the ANC in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature. He was a prominent trade unionist in the Eastern Cape during apartheid and is also a former Provincial Secretary of the ANC's Eastern Cape branch.
Ndleleni Moses Duma was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until his death in 2018. He also served in the National Assembly between 2009 and 2014. He was a Member of the North West Executive Council from 2004 to 2009 during the premiership of Edna Molewa;during the same period,he was convicted on theft charges in connection with his involvement in the Travelgate scandal during an earlier period of service in the national Parliament.
Mnyamezeli Shedrack "Nyami" Booi is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2019. During that time he served as Chief Whip of the Majority Party from October 2008 to April 2009 and as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans from June 2009 to October 2010.

Fihla first joined the ANC in 1954 through its Youth League and he was imprisoned on Robben Island from 1964 to 1978 for his work with Umkhonto we Sizwe.
Maapi Angelina Molebatsi is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly. She first served in the assembly between 1999 and 2004,representing the ANC in the North West. She served two further terms consecutively from 2009 to 2019,during which time she was a member of the Portfolio Committee on Police.

She was also the ACDP's provincial leader in the Western Cape until 2012,when she left to join the Democratic Alliance (DA).
