Bruce R. Evans (born c. 1959) is an American venture capitalist, corporate director and philanthropist. He is the managing director of Summit Partners and the Chairman of the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust. [1]

Early life

Bruce R. Evans was born circa 1959 in West Virginia. [2] [3] He was educated at the Huntington High School in Huntington, West Virginia. [4] He graduated from Vanderbilt University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and economics in 1981. [5] [6] [7] He earned a master's in business administration from the Harvard Business School. [2] [6] [7]

Career

Evans began his career as a salesman for IBM in Louisville, Kentucky. [6] Since 1986, he has been at Summit Partners, where he is managing director and chair of the board of managers. [2] [6]

Evans served on the boards of directors of Fleetcor from 2002 to 2014. [8] He was also a board member of the National Venture Capital Association. [5] He serves on the board of Analog Devices, [8] Casa Systems, [9] Fuze, [10] and Masternaut. [6]

Philanthropy

Evans joined the board of trust of his alma mater, Vanderbilt University, in 2009; he succeeded Mark Dalton as its chairman in 2017. [5] [11] He has donated $1 million to the university, and $400,000 to the Harvard Business School. [7] Via the Evans Family Foundation, Evans has also made charitable contributions to Boston College, Bowdoin College, Miami University, and the Roxbury Latin School. [7] In 2018, Evans and his wife Bridgitt, announced they are committing $20 million to help support Vanderbilt University initiatives focused on the undergraduate living-learning experience, as well as leadership positions in the School of Engineering. Evans is married to Bridgitt Bertram, an HBS alumna and contemporary art collector. [7] [14] They have four children. [4] [14] They reside in Boston, [11] and they own another property in Telluride, Colorado. [3]

Old Huntington High School Public school in Huntington, West Virginia, United States

Old Huntington High School is a historic high school building located at Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia. It was built in 1916, and is a 4+1⁄2-story buff-brick building in the Classical Revival style. It consists of a long rectangle with a shorter rectangular wing on each end of the main rectangle forming a "U" shape. The courtyard is enclosed with three additions completed in 1951 (gymnasium), 1956 (cafeteria), and 1977. The building contains 155,512 square feet (14,447.5 m2) of space. The kitchen is located in an older red brick building built in 1916, built originally as a carriage house. The last graduating class was in 1996. A new facility was built to consolidate Old Huntington High and Huntington East High School into a single institution; the new school opened in August 1996 as Huntington High School. It is now known as The Renaissance Center. Part of the building was converted into apartments. The YMCA uses part of it for workout facilities and a daycare facility. The building also houses studio space, an auditorium, and small art gallery.
