Alberto Santos Dumont was a Brazilian aeronaut, sportsman, inventor, and one of the very few people to have contributed significantly to the early development of both lighter-than-air and heavier-than-air aircraft. The heir of a wealthy family of coffee producers, Santos-Dumont dedicated himself to aeronautical study and experimentation in Paris, where he spent most of his adult life. He designed, built, and flew the first gasoline-powered dirigible balloons and won the Deutsch Prize in 1901, when he flew around the Eiffel Tower in his airship No. 6, becoming one of the most famous people in the world in the early 20th century.

Santos Dumont is a municipality in southern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The population (2020) is estimated to be 46,421 and the total area of the municipality is 639.1 km2 (246.8 sq mi). It lies at an elevation of 839 m (2,753 ft) just off the main interstate highway, BR040, between the urban centers of Barbacena (north) and Juiz de Fora (south). It is 240 km (150 mi) from the state capital, Belo Horizonte, and 220 km (140 mi) from Rio de Janeiro. It became a city in 1889.

Santos Dumont Explaining His Air Ship to the Hon. C.S. Rolls is a short film made using a sequence of frames that shows the Brazilian inventor and pioneer aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont explaining the operation of his airship to Charles Rolls, the future founder of Rolls-Royce. It was filmed while Santos-Dumont visited London between 22 and 28 November 1901 and was screened on 3 December the same year, at London's Palace Theatre.

The Santos Dumont Collection, also known as Alberto Santos Dumont Collection, is a collection of about 1,500 items linked to Santos Dumont, under the guard of the Museu Paulista.
