The Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE) is a Mississauga-based trade organization supporting the export of Canadian mining exploration equipment and services to mining companies around the world. The organization introduces foreign mining companies to Canadian suppliers by publicizing the expertise and success of domestic mining technologies and mining operations. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

Contents

Traditionally assisting with market development in the Americas and Russia, CAMESE is making new efforts to support Canadian mining exporters in India [7] [8] [9] [10] and other Asian countries. [11]

CAMESE also supports foreign direct investment in Canadian mining operations. [12] [13]

Services

CAMESE organizes and participates in mining trade shows (such as internationally known annual Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) in Toronto, see [14] ), industry networking events, [15] [16] policy roundtables, [17] [18] and publishes an Annual Compendium of Canadian mining equipment suppliers and service companies (Compendium of Canadian Mining Suppliers request form at http://www.camese.org/request.cfm), digital version viewable at http://www.camese.org/current Archived 2017-04-18 at the Wayback Machine

Services are provided in English, French, and Spanish, covering the languages of the major mining areas in North America, and South America.

Membership

More than 250 equipment suppliers, manufacturers and service providers are members of the organization, [19] including Export Development Canada (EDC), Geosoft, Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP (Gowlings), Phoenix Geophysics, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), and Hatch [19] Together, these companies represent a significant portion of the Canadian mine services and mining exploration industry, in turn representing thousands of technicians, engineers, geologists, and geophysicists and millions of dollars of export revenue each year. Much of this employment is located in Northern Ontario, well known for its large mineral deposits (especially of nickel) and extraction programmes by major mining companies including Vale and Glencore.

In turn, CAMESE is a member of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). [20]

History

Founded in 1981 by Canadian mining exporters operating in Lima, Peru, CAMESE celebrated its 25th year of industry advocacy and support in 2006. [21] Membership has grown since the early 1990s, and CAMESE has become the leading Canadian mining equipment and services export association.

Funding

Funding for CAMESE is provided by annual membership dues, grants from the Canadian federal government EDC, [22] [23] and grants from the Ontario provincial government. [24]

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) is a learned society dedicated to promoting the science and education of exploration geophysics in particular and geophysics in general. The Society fosters the expert and ethical practice of geophysics in the exploration and development of natural resources, in characterizing the near-surface, and in mitigating earth hazards. As of November 2019, SEG has more than 14,000 members working in more than 114 countries. SEG was founded in 1930 in Houston, Texas but its business office has been headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma since the mid-1940s. While most SEG members are involved in exploration for petroleum, SEG members also are involved in application of geophysics methods to mineral exploration as well as environmental and engineering problems, archaeology, and other scientific endeavors. SEG publishes The Leading Edge (TLE), a monthly professional magazine, Geophysics, a peer-reviewed archival publication, and Interpretation, a peer-reviewed journal co-published by SEG and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

Anthony R. "Tony" Barringer was a Canadian/American geophysicist. He made numerous contributions to mineral exploration technology. His most famous work was the development of the INPUT airborne electromagnetic system, which has been credited in the discovery of tens of billions of dollars' worth of ore deposits.

Sphinx Resources Ltd. is a Canadian company focused on exploration of precious and base metals within mining rights in Quebec. It is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. The company was formerly named Donner Metals Ltd., headquarters are in Vancouver, and active in other provinces, but changed names in 2014 and moved its headquarters to Montreal, Quebec. As Donner, its principal project was a 35-65 joint venture with Glencore Xstrata in Matagami, Quebec.

Violet Rita "Viola" MacMillan was a Canadian mineral prospector and mining financier. During her career, she was one of few women in the mining industry, was the first female member and, later, president of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, and the first woman inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.

Established in 1932, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) represents the interests of the Canadian mineral exploration and development industry. The association is best known for its annual convention and trade show in Toronto. The event regularly attracts up to 25,000 attendees from more than 130 countries.

The Devonshire Initiative (DI) is a Canadian forum for leading international development NGOs and mining companies to come together in response to the emerging social agenda surrounding mining and community development issues. The DI was founded on the belief that the Canadian mining and NGO presence in emerging markets can be a force for positive change. The group came into being on March 5, 2007 at an initial workshop conducted at the University of Toronto on cross-sector partnerships, which featured a case study of the Kimberley Process on Conflict Diamonds.

The Decennial Mineral Exploration Conferences (DMEC) is a Canadian voluntary association dedicated to the advancement of geoscience applied to exploration for mineral resources. The inaugural 1967 conference "Canadian Centennial Conference on Mining and Groundwater Geophysics", held in Ottawa, Canada, was organized by the Geological Survey of Canada as part of the Canadian Centennial. While the original session focussed on mining and groundwater geophysics, the purpose of subsequent conferences expanded to include geochemistry, and other geoscience disciplines as they are applied in mineral exploration.

Alexander Peter Annan is an engineer whose research focuses on near-surface geophysics. He has made significant contributions to the development of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) technology. Annan is the CEO of Sensors & Software, a company he founded to commercialize GPR technology. He has been working on the development of GPR since the 1970s and was one of the lead researchers on the surface electrical properties experiment conducted on the Moon during the Apollo 17 mission.
