Zhejiang Chunfeng Power Co., Ltd., [lower-alpha 1] commonly known by its trade name CFMOTO, [lower-alpha 2] is a Chinese manufacturer of engines, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, quadricycles, quads, and yachts headquartered in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. [1] The Chunfeng CF650-2 and CF1250J models produced by the company are police vehicles used by public security agencies in many provinces and cities. [2] [3]

History

CFMOTO was established in 1989 by Lai Guoqiang. [4] In 2013, it began to be involved in the construction of high-end yachts. [5]

In 2011, CFMOTO and KTM entered into a commercial partnership. In 2017, the two companies started a joint venture [6] [7] that allows the production and sale of KTM motorcycles in China under the name of "KTMR2R". [8] CFMOTO also assembles the small displacement models on behalf of KTM in its Chinese factories, as well as producing the larger displacement KTM engines.

Since 2017, CFMOTO has been listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange as Chunfeng Power with the code 603129.

At the end of 2020, CFMOTO announced a new sub-brand of electric motorcycles, a Zeeho.

Sales and marketing

CFMOTO designs and manufactures 400-1000cc ATVs, 500-1000cc SSVs, 1000cc UTVs, [9] and 125-800cc motorcycles. [10] Its annual production capacity is 800,000 engines and more than 600,000 vehicles [11] distributed in more than 100 countries and distributed by more than 2,000 partners. [11]

CFMOTO entered the Moto3 World Championship as a unique constructor using their KTM-based motorcycle. [12]

In 2022, CFMOTO made its debut in the Moto3 class of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing. In fact, two KTM RC250GPs rebranded CFMOTO were lined up by the Prüstel GP team. [13] The riders chosen for the debut season were Spaniards Xavier Artigas and Carlos Tatay. [14] [15] At the Indonesian Grand Prix, Tatay started on pole position and finished in third place, the CFMOTO team's first podium. [16]

Grand Prix motorcycle racing is the highest class of motorcycle road racing events held on road circuits sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The 2011 Valencian Community motorcycle Grand Prix was the last round of the 2011 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 4–6 November 2011 at the Circuito Ricardo Tormo. It was the first race after the death of Marco Simoncelli in Sepang. It was the final race for the current formula in the premier (MotoGP) and lightweight classes. In the premier class, the 800cc engines would be replaced by 1000cc engines. Honda also would change motorcycles at the end of the season, as the Honda RC212V that débuted at the 2007 Qatar Grand Prix would be replaced by the RC213V for the following season. In the lightweight class, the 125cc two-stroke motorcycle formula would be replaced by 250cc four-strokes for 2012. This was also the final race for Suzuki as a factory team until their return in 2015.

The 2015 FIM Moto3 World Championship was a part of the 67th F.I.M. Road Racing World Championship season. Álex Márquez was the reigning series champion but he did not defend his title as he joined the series' intermediate class, Moto2. Danny Kent became Great Britain's first Grand Prix motorcycle world champion since Barry Sheene in 1977, by winning the championship at the final race of the season in Valencia. Leopard Racing rider Kent started the season with wins at three of the first four races and his lowest finish in the first half of the season was fourth, leading the championship by 66 points at the mid-season break. He only visited the podium once in the second half of the season – a victory at Silverstone – as Enea Bastianini and latterly, Miguel Oliveira started to cut into his advantage. Oliveira trailed Kent by 110 points with 6 races remaining, but finished with 4 wins and 2 seconds in those races, and took the championship race to the final event as he became the closest challenger to Kent. Ultimately, Kent's ninth-place finish in Valencia gave him the championship by six points over Oliveira; both riders finished with six wins each, as Oliveira became Portugal's first motorcycle Grand Prix race-winner. Bastianini finished third in the championship, fifty-three points behind Kent; he won one race during the season, at Misano.
