Canoe slalom is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport.

The ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships are an international event in canoe racing, one of two Summer Olympic sport events organized by the International Canoe Federation. The World Championships have taken place every non-Olympic year since 1970 and officially included paracanoe events since 2010; since 2012, paracanoe-specific editions of this event have been held in Summer Paralympic years.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Canoeing at the Summer Olympics</span>

Canoeing has been featured as competition sports in the Summer Olympic Games since the 1936 Games in Berlin, although they were demonstration sports at the 1924 Games in Paris. There are two disciplines of canoeing in Olympic competition: slalom and sprint.

Canoe and kayak were held at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar from December 10 to December 14. Men's and women's competitions were held in kayak and men's competition in canoe with all events having taken place at the West Bay Lagoon. The competition included only sprint events.

The 1938 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Vaxholm, Sweden, outside Stockholm, between 6–7 August 1938. This event was held under the auspices of the Internationale Repräsentantenschaft Kanusport (IRK), founded in 1924 and the forerunner of the International Canoe Federation.

The 1975 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia for the second time, having hosted them in 1971. This also equaled the most times a city had done so with Copenhagen, Denmark.

The 1977 Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The 1986 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Montreal, Canada at the Notre Dame Island. This is also where the canoeing and rowing competitions for the 1976 Summer Olympics took place.

The 1990 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Poznań, Poland on Lake Malta.

The 1994 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held in Mexico City, Mexico for the second time at neighboring Xochimilco. The Mexican city had hosted the event previously in 1974 at the same venue that hosted the canoeing and rowing competitions for the 1968 Summer Olympics.

The 2013 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships was held 29 August–1 September 2013 in Duisburg, Germany. The championships were awarded originally to Szeged, Hungary, but Szeged was moved to 2011 in the wake of Vichy, France's withdrawal in 2010 and awarded to Rio de Janeiro, who withdrew in September 2012. Consequently, the World Championships were awarded to Duisburg.

Canoeing and Kayaking were held at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea from October 10 to October 12. Men's and women's competition were held in Kayak and men's competition in Canoe with all events having taken place at the Nakdong River Rowing and Canoeing Courses. The competition included only sprint events.

Canoeing at the 2010 Asian Games was held in Guangzhou, China from November 13 to 26, 2010. Men's and women's competition were held in Kayak and men's competition in Canoe with all events having taken place at the International Rowing Centre.

Canoeing and Kayaking were held at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, China from October 2 to October 5. Men's and women's competition were held in Kayak and men's competition in Canoe. The competition included only sprint events.

Canoeing and Kayaking were held at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand from 8 to 11 December. Men's and women's competition were held in Kayak and men's competition in Canoe with all events having taken place at the Map Prachan Reservoir in Chonburi. The competition included only sprint events.

The men's K-1 slalom canoeing competition at the 2014 Asian Games in Hanam was held from 1 to 2 October at the Misari Canoe/Kayak Center. The slalom event was on flat water and not an artificial canoe slalom course. The K-1 event is raced by one-man kayaks. Each NOC could enter two athletes but only one of them could advance to the semifinal.

The men's slalom K-1 canoeing event at the 2015 Pan American Games will be held between the 18 and 19 of July at the Minden Wild Water Preserve in Minden Hills. At the Pan American Sports Organization's 2013 general assembly in Jamaica, canoe slalom competitions were added to the program. This will be the first time slalom has been staged at the Pan American Games. Furthermore, women will also compete in canoe races for the first time ever in both disciplines. The winners of the four canoe slalom competitions will qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. If the host nation of the Olympics (Brazil) wins the event, the runner up will qualify instead.

The 2017 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, the 43rd edition of the World Championships, were held in Račice, Czech Republic, from 23 to 27 August 2017.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Canoeing at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's K-1 200 metres</span> Olympic canoeing event

The men's K-1 200 metres sprint canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 4 and 5 August 2021 at the Sea Forest Waterway. At least 12 canoeists from at least 12 nations competed.

The 2022 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships took place from 26 to 31 July 2022 in Augsburg, Germany under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 42nd edition. The events took place at the Augsburg Eiskanal. Augsburg hosted the championships for the fourth time after previously hosting in 1957, 1985 and 2003.
