With a population of 50,135 as of 2021, Harrisburg is the ninth-largest city and 15th-largest municipality in Pennsylvania. Harrisburg is situated on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. It is the larger principal city of the Harrisburg–Carlisle metropolitan statistical area, also known as the Susquehanna Valley, which had a population of 591,712 as of 2020, making it the fourth-most populous metropolitan area in Pennsylvania after the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Lehigh Valley metropolitan areas.

It is one of two high schools operated by the Central Dauphin School District. In the 2017–2018 school year, enrollment was reported as 1,472 pupils in 9th through 12th grades.
The Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU) is an Intermediate Unit based in Summerdale, a suburb of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The administrative office is located at 55 Miller Street, Enola, East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. It serves a portion of central Pennsylvania counties, including: Cumberland County, Dauphin County, the northern portion of York County, and Perry County. CAIU15 offers services to: 24 school districts and 2 area vocational technical schools by providing programs and initiatives. It is also known by its IU number, IU No. 15. In addition to funding from local districts, CAIU applies for: private, state and federal grants. The CAIU 15 received more than $17.1 million from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in general operating funds in school year 2009–2010. From 2007 through 2011, Amy Morton was the executive director.

Wildwood Park is a public park and nature sanctuary in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The 229 acre park is known for its 90-acre shallow lake with over 6 miles of trails and mile-long boardwalk over the wetlands. The park is located within the city limits of Harrisburg; however, it is administered and maintained by the Dauphin County Parks and Recreation Department. Wildwood Park runs in line with Paxton Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River, on the northern side of Harrisburg and adjacent to the main campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College. Paxton Creek feeds into the lake, which comprises 60% of the Park. A section of the old Pennsylvania Canal runs parallel to the western trail. The remainder of the park is mixed deciduous forest, and an artificial meadow overlooks the eastern side of the lake. Wildwood Park is also part of the Capital Area Greenbelt.
Bressler is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Swatara Township, Dauphin County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The community was formerly part of the census-designated place of Bressler-Enhaut-Oberlin, before splitting into three separate CDPs for the 2010 census. As of the 2010 census the population of Bressler was 1,437.
The West Shore of the Harrisburg area is a group of suburbs of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania which are located to the west of the Susquehanna River. The Susquehanna River is very wide near Harrisburg, and that contributes to the perception, at least among the local inhabitants, that the East Shore and West Shore have distinct identities. The East Shore area includes parts of eastern Cumberland County, southeastern Perry County and northern York County.

The School operates seven additional branches, called Family Service Centers, across the Commonwealth: Andreas, Allentown, Harrisburg, Center City Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cranberry, Scranton and Williamsport. When the School was originally approved it served Kindergarten through 8th grade pupils all across Pennsylvania.
Widener University Commonwealth Law School is a law school located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and part of Widener University, a private university in Chester, Pennsylvania. It is one of two separate ABA-accredited law schools of the university. It was founded in 1989 as an expansion of Widener University's law school in Wilmington. It awards the Juris Doctor degree in its full-time and part-time programs and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS).
