Carhuaz, Peru is the capital of the province of Carhuaz. It is located in the Ancash Region, Carhuaz Province, Carhuaz District.
It is situated at 34 km from Huaraz, at 2,688 msnm. Its temperature average is from 12 to 14 degrees Celsius. Near this city, the hot springs of Monterrey and the airport of Anta are located.

Carhuaz was created by law 7951 of December 14, 1934. It is similar to those of the other cities of the Callejón de Huaylas. Its name derives from qarwash which means yellow, that is to say, the color of the retama flowers (broom flowers) that covers the hills that are contiguous to the city.
From its main square, the snow-capped mountain Wallqan (6,126 m) can be seen. This mountain is known as the second Waskaran. The city displays a Hispanic and colonial style, keeping its old casonas.
The zone, located in the right margin of the Santa river, has a moderate and agreeable climate. It also has abundant agricultural products, especially fragrant fruits. In the surroundings, there are propitious places for hunting tarukas, partridges and viscachas, as well as for fishing trout.
At 8 km to the south of Carhuaz the village Marcará is located from where a road of 4 km departs. This road leads to the mineral-medicinal[ citation needed ] fountains of Chancos which has been dubbed[ by whom? ] "the Fountain of Youth". Other hot springs are the ones from La Merced and La Providencia.

The Punta Olimpica Tunnel is a vehicular transportation tunnel through high mountains, connecting the Callejón de Huaylas and Conchucos valleys of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range in Peru. The tunnel is intended to ease traffic on Route AN-107, one of the cross roads in the Ancash region linking the cities of Carhuaz, San Luis and Chacas a distance of 100 km. With a length of 1,384 meters, is the longest vehicular tunnel of Peru and the highest in the world, located at 4,735 meters above sea level. Its drilling began on May 15, 2012, and ended on February 24, 2013. It opened in August 2013 in conjunction with Route AN-107.
Jacabamba is a 5,566-metre-high (18,261 ft) mountain in the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of Peru. It is situated in the Ancash Region, Asunción Province, Chacas District, in the Carhuaz Province, Marcará District, and in the Huari Province, Huari District. Jacabamba lies between mount Copap to the north and Chinchey to the south. Lake Rurichinchay lies at its feet.
Wallqaqucha is a lake in the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of Peru. It is situated at a height of 4,355 m (14,288 ft) comprising an area of 0.163066 km2 (163,066 m2). It is located in the Ancash Region, Carhuaz Province, Shilla District, northwest of Wallqan. Wallqaqucha lies at the feet of Chiqllarahu, northeast and north of Awkishqucha and Chiqllaqucha.
