Castleford Central and Glasshoughton is an electoral ward of the City of Wakefield district used for elections to Wakefield Metropolitan District Council. [1]
The ward is one of 21 in the Wakefield district, and has been held by Labour since the current boundaries were formed for the 2004 Council election. As of 2019, the electorate stands at 12,093 of which, according to the 2011 Census, 95.7% identify as "White British" and 66.5% of who identify as Christian. [1] [2]
The ward is situated in the north of the District and incorporates central Castleford, Wheldon Road and Lock Lane, Glasshoughton, Redhill (part), Smawthorne Estate, The Maltkilns, the Potteries and the Healdfield area. The south of the ward is bounded by the M62 motorway, and the boundary to the north of the ward is defined by the River Aire and River Calder. [1]
Like all wards in the Wakefield district, Castleford Central and Glashoughton has 3 councillors, whom are elected on a 4-year-rota. This means elections for new councillors are held for three years running, with one year every four years having no elections. [3]
The current councillors are Richard Forster, Tony Wallis and Denise Jeffery, all of whom are Labour. [4]
Jeffery is currently the Leader of Wakefield Council, after her predecessor Peter Box CBE stood down after 21 years in the position. [5]

Castleford is a town within the City of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. It had a population of 45,106 at a 2021 population estimate. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, to the north of the town centre the River Calder joins the River Aire and the Aire and Calder Navigation. It is located north east of Wakefield, north of Pontefract and south east of Leeds. Castleford is the largest town in the Wakefield district after Wakefield itself.

Wakefield Metropolitan District Council, also known as Wakefield Council, is the local authority of the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. It is a metropolitan district council and provides a full range of local government services including Council Tax billing, libraries, social services, processing planning applications, waste collection and disposal, and it is a local education authority. Wakefield is divided into 21 wards, electing 63 councillors. A third of the council is elected for three of every four years. The council was created by the Local Government Act 1972 and replaced the Wakefield City Council of the County Borough of Wakefield and several other authorities. Since 1974 Wakefield has held borough and city status and from this time would use the full title of the authority on all publications, signage, council vehicle fleet and documents, however from around 2005, like many other local authorities doing so at the time, the authority dropped the full title for the shorter Wakefield Council.
Mark Burns-Williamson, is a British Labour Party politician who served as the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner from 2012 to 2021. He was the chair of the West Yorkshire Police Authority from 2003 to 2012 He was also the Wakefield District Councillor for Castleford Central and Glasshoughton Ward from 1998 to 2012.
