Chandavalliya Thota is a 1964 Indian Kannada language film, directed by T. V. Singh Thakur. [1] It stars Rajkumar, Udaykumar and Jayanthi. Film was released on 24 June 1964 and ran for a hundred days at Prabhat Cinema in Bangalore. [2] The film won many laurels upon release including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada for its Gandhian theme treatment of the poverty in rural Indian villages. [3] The movie is based on the novel of same name by Ta.Ra.Su. [4] [5] This movie was the debut movie of singer K. J. Yesudas in Kannada. The movie was a huge hit. [6]

Plot

Through the efforts of two close friends and revered village heads, Sivananjay Gowda and Naraharappa, a coconut grove is created to cool down the arid village with vegetation. Gowda, owner of grove, follows his astrologer’s advice and makes a “daan” of grove to his friend Narahari to escape his doom. Then, a priest and his wife scheme to grab the grove. A local tramp, Kariyappa, joins them, whose evil designs are to appropriate all that Gowda possesses. The schemers entice Rama, Gowda’s prodigal son, and even manoeuvre his marriage with Lakshmi. Eventually they succeed in sowing discord and bringing about a separation in the family. Rama demands and gets most of the property, which he promptly squanders away.

The movie saw a 25 weeks run when it was re-released in 1988.

Vidyasagar, known by his stage name Rajesh, was an Indian actor who appeared in Kannada films. Known as 'Kala Thapaswi', Rajesh was an ardent fan of literature. Bommasandra Srinivasaiah Suryanarayana Murthy, known by his screen name Udaykumar, was an Indian actor and producer in Kannada cinema. He, along with Kalyan Kumar and Rajkumar, were called the Kumarathrayaru of Kannada cinema. He has authored many dramas and books. He has performed a broad range of roles and worked with all of the prominent actors of his day. He portrayed heroic characters early in his career later it became more nuanced villainous characters, often counterpointing Rajkumar's heroic persona in historicals and mythologicals.

Rajasree, also known as Rajasri or Rajashri, is an Indian actress active from 1956 to 1979. She is particularly famous for her portrayal as a princess in several folklore Telugu movies opposite N. T. Rama Rao and Tadepalli Lakshmi Kanta Rao and for acting alongside Ravichandran in the Tamil comedy films Neeyum Naanum, Kadhalikka Neram Illai and Delhi Mappilai. Singh Thakur, based on the book Sri Raghavendra Vijaya written by Rajaguru Rajacharya, and stars Rajkumar in the role of Raghavendra Swami, a Hindu saint who lived in the 17th century India. Baalu Belagithu is a 1970 Indian Kannada language drama film written and directed by Siddalingaiah. It stars Rajkumar, Jayanthi and Bharathi. The film was released under Chitrashree International banner and produced by K S Prasad, B V Srinivas and A S Bhakthavathsalam. It was remade in Telugu as Manchivadu, in Hindi as Humshakal and in Tamil as Oorukku Uzhaippavan.

Baala Bandhana is a 1971 Indian Kannada language romantic drama film, directed by Peketi Sivaram. It stars Rajkumar and Jayanthi. It was produced under ALS Productions. It had a very successful soundtrack composed by G. K. Venkatesh. The film was a remake of 1953 Bengali film Jog Biyog which was based on the novel of same name by Ashapurna Devi. Though a hit, it could not meet the success of the Tamil and Telugu remake versions of the same Bengali movie.

The film was produced under Sri Eswari Productions of N. Veeraswamy. It had a very successful soundtrack composed by T. G. Lingappa. Popular actor-director V. Ravichandran, son of the film producer Veerasamy, appeared in the film as a child artist. The film swept 5 awards at the 1970-71 Karnataka State Film Awards including the best film, best actor, and best editor categories.

Sri Ramanjaneya Yuddha is a 1963 Indian Kannada-language film, directed by M. Nageshwara Rao and M S Nayak. The film stars Rajkumar, Udaykumar, K. S. Ashwath and Dikki Madhavarao. The film has musical score by Satyam who made his debut through this film. The title card of the movie revealed that this was Rajkumar's 50th movie. The movie was remade in Telugu in 1975 as Sri Ramanjaneya Yuddham starring N. T. Rama Rao.

Vathsalya is a 1965 Indian Kannada-language film, directed by Y. R. Swamy. The film stars Rajkumar, Udaykumar, Narasimharaju and Shivaraj. The film has musical score by Vijaya Krishnamurthy. The film was a remake of the Tamil film Pasamalar. It was a big hit. This is the only movie in which Leelavathi played the role of Rajkumar's sister.

Premamayi is a 1966 Indian Kannada-language film, directed by M. R. Vittal and produced by Srikanth Nahatha and Srikanth Patel. The film stars Rajkumar, K. S. Ashwath, Leelavathi and Jayanthi. The film has musical score by R. Sudarshanam. This is the only movie where Leelavathi played the role of Rajkumar's sister-in-law. The movie is an official adaptation of the National Award winning 1964 Malayalam movie Kudumbini.
