Chandel is a town serving as the district headquarters of the Chandel district in Manipur, India. It is in the valley of the Chakpi River, a tributary of the Manipur River.

As of the 2011 Census of India, Chandel had a population of 1,521 spread over 125 households. [1] It comes under Outer Manipur (Lok Sabha constituency). [2]

Sugnu is a small town at the southern tip of the Kakching district in Manipur, India. It is on the bank of the Manipur River, to the east of Churachandpur district and Bishnupur district. The town is inhabited by Meitei and Kuki communities. It is a very old town but never developed for over 100 years.

Tengnoupal is a hill town at the highest point of a road (NH-2) between Imphal and Moreh at the end of northwestern Myanmar; the ASEAN Highway passes through the village. It is the district headquarters of the recently reinstated Tengnoupal District and the administrative headquarters of yet to be formed Tengnoupal Autonomous District Council. The climate is cold all throughout the year and remains foggy during the rainy season. The village was founded by Pu Houlim Loikhom Mate and it is the largest village of the Kuki people in the district. The village due to its strategic location has seen many battles in the course of history including World War II.

They are listed as a Scheduled Tribe, in accordance with The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Orders (Amendment) Act, 1976 Indian Constitution. The Anāl tribe is one of the 'sixty six Naga tribes' of the Naga ancestral homeland. The members of this tribe are found both in India and Myanmar. In India, they are situated in the States of Manipur and Nagaland but mostly concentrated in the former. In the State of Manipur, the Anāl Naga population concentrated in Chandel and a few Anāl villages are located in its neighbouring districts, Churachandpur district has about three villages and Thoubal district has one or two.
