Charlotte Fry (born 11 February 1996) is an English Olympic, European Championships and World Championships medal-winning British dressage rider.

Personal story

A daughter of Laura Fry, who competed at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Charlotte Fry started riding at a young age. Aged 14, she started training with Olympic Champion Carl Hester, having weekly lessons from the age of 16. Hester told former Danish Olympiad Anne van Olst about Fry, after which Fry moved to the Netherlands to train with van Olst. Since 2012 she has lived and worked alongside her boyfriend in the Netherlands. [1]

Career

In 2018 Fry became World Champion during the World Championships for Young Horses in Ermelo, riding Glamourdale in the 7-years old division. She also won at the 2018 European Championships for Grand Prix riders under the age of 25 in Exloo, Netherlands, with her horse Dark Legend. [2] [3]

Fry competed at the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam where she placed 4th with the British dressage team. She continues to train in Den Hout, the Netherlands with former Danish Olympian Anne van Olst. [4]

She was selected to represent Great Britain during the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. She won the bronze team medal and ended 13th in the individual competition. [5] A month later she won gold at the World Championships for Young Horses in Verden with the Dutch-bred Kjento. [6]

In the 2022 FEI World Championships in Herning, Denmark, Charlotte competed Glamourdale to win Gold in both the Individual Grand Prix Special and the Individual Grand Prix Freestyle. On December 16, 2022, the pair won the 5th leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup, West Europe League, with a personal best of 90.995% in the Freestyle.

Since 2015, the competition has shared a site and branding with vaulting, reining, jumping, and driving events. For sponsorship reasons, eventing is not included, as it is part of the FEI European Championships, echoing the combined World Equestrian Games concept. The first official combined event took place in Aachen in 2015.

Anne van Olst, also known as Anne Koch Jensen, is a Danish dressage rider. She was part of the Bronze winning Danish team at the Olympic games in Beijing 2008 and finished 23rd in the individual dressage at the 2012 Summer Olympics, riding Clearwater.

Edward Gal is a Dutch dressage rider. He and the stallion Totilas, were triple gold medalists at the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games, becoming the first horse-rider partnership ever to sweep the three available dressage gold medals at a single FEI World Games. Going into the 2010 Games, they had amassed multiple world-record scores in international competition, leading one American journalist to call them "rock stars in the horse world". After the World Equestrian Games, Totilas was sold to German trainer Paul Schockemöhle. Gal continues to be successful training and competing dressage horses at the international level. Despite the success, he has been criticised to be harsh trainer who creates stressed and fearful horses.

Laura Tomlinson MBE is a German-British dressage rider competing at Olympic level. As of 30 June 2012 the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) ranked her 3rd in the world riding Mistral Højris and 36th on Andretti H. In that year, Tomlinson, riding Mistral Højris under her maiden name of Laura Bechtolsheimer, won two medals in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London; gold for Great Britain in the team dressage with Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin, the first ever Olympic team gold in the discipline for her country, and bronze in the individual dressage behind gold medalist and compatriot Dujardin.

Shruti Vora is an Indian equestrienne. She represented India at the 2022 FEI World Championships held at Herning, Denmark. Vora and Anush Agarwalla were the first Indians to compete in an individual dressage event at the Dressage World Championships, where Vora scored scored 64.53% astride 16-year Indian-bred Denightron. Vora qualified for the World Championship at Hagen in June 2022 and represented India at the 2014 Asian Games at Incheon.

The individual dressage at the 2023 FEI European Dressage Championships in Riesenbeck, Germany was held at Riesenbeck International from 4 to 10 September.
