Cheryl Jones (born May 3, 1964) is an American former professional tennis player.
Jones played college tennis for the USC Trojans in 1983 and 1984, then joined the professional tour. [1] As a doubles player she reached a best world ranking of 91 and won one WTA Tour title, the 1987 Brasil Open, partnering Katrina Adams. In 1988 she featured in the main draw of the women's doubles at the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
From 1989 to 1995, Jones was the women's tennis head coach of the USC Trojans. She is the first African-American woman to have coached an NCAA Division I tennis team. [2]

The USC Trojans are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. USC's official colors are cardinal and gold. The Trojans have a cross-town rivalry in several sports with UCLA. However, USC's football rivalry with Notre Dame predates the UCLA rivalry by three years. The Notre Dame rivalry stems mainly from the annual football game played between these two universities and is considered the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football. The Trojans also enjoy a rivalry with the Stanford Cardinal. The USC Trojans are considered one of the most successful college athletic programs of all time.

Starting at the age of eight, Ruffels started playing tennis and won twenty one International Tennis Federation doubles events in Europe. She also was the number one ranking Australian junior when she was twelve. After switching from tennis to golf in 2015, Ruffels primarily competed in Australia from 2016 to 2017. In 2018, Ruffels joined the USC Trojans women's golf team at the University of Southern California. With USC, Ruffels appeared at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships from 2018 to 2019 in both the individual and team events.
