Andrea Chizoba "Chizzy" Akudolu (born 7 October 1973) is a British actress. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]
In 2002, Akudolu was one of eight new comedy performers who won the BBC Talent Initiative, The Urban Sketch Showcase. All eight performed a comedy sketch show in front of BBC casting directors and producers at the Tabernacle Theatre in Notting Hill. Her first television appearance was in the BBC sitcom 15 Storeys High . This was followed by a small role in EastEnders . She continued to work for the BBC in her first children's series called Stupid! and Roman's Empire . Credits also include Green Wing and Dustbin Baby for Kindle Entertainment and as a caricature of herself in the mockumentary The Most Unromantic Man in the World. Akudolu also played series regular Miss Kanouti in The Complete Guide to Parenting . She has continued to work for CBBC in programmes such as Nuzzle and Scratch , Scoop and Gigglebiz . In 2007, she toured with The Vagina Monologues for three months. In 2008, Akudolu played the housemate, Angel, in Dead Set , a zombie parody of Big Brother . In 2009, she had a guest role in Hollyoaks Later and starred in the CBBC show Jinx in the lead role as the unconventional Fairy Godmother, Cookie. In 2010 Akudolu appeared in The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret , Twenty Twelve , The Inbetweeners , and as a semi-regular in the Channel 4 comedy Campus .
Since May 2012, Akudolu has played the role of the surgeon Mo Effanga in Holby City . In 2017 it was announced that Akudolu was departing Holby City after five years. She was nominated and won the award for "Best Newcomer" at the Black International Film Festival and Music Video & Screen Awards. She has also won the Best Actress in the same year at BEFFTA Awards. She was nominated for the "Emerging Talent" award at the 8th Annual Screen Nation Awards. [9]
In 2017, Akudolu took part in Let's Sing and Dance for Comic Relief with a duo from Casualty. The trio performed "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars and came second place. In 2017, she took part in the fifteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One. She was the first celebrity to be eliminated after a disappointing Foxtrot which lacked flow and the traditional format of the dance. [10] Akudolu took part in The Weakest Link one-off celebrity episode for Children in Need. She was the strongest link in 5 out of the 6 rounds, and beat Rylan Clark-Neal in the final round to win, earning £1,130 for Children in Need, which the programme doubled.
2018 saw Akudolu compete on Richard Osman's House of Games , televised on BBC Two, [11] alongside Tom Allen, Charlie Higson, and Kate Williams. [12] Having won one of the episodes in her week, she returned for a House of Champions special along with Miles Jupp, Amol Rajan and Ellie Taylor, broadcast in 2020. [13]
In January 2019, Akudolu played Butterfly Brown in Death in Paradise . [14]
In 2022, Akudolu competed in Celebrity Hunted for Stand up to Cancer. She was caught third in the series, with her teammate Lisa Mafia caught shortly after her.
She also made a guest appearance in ITV's sitcom Kate and Koji as Lisa.
She has a brown belt in karate and is an experienced calligrapher. Her mother was a midwife. [ citation needed ]

Maureen "Mo" Effanga is a fictional character from the BBC medical drama Holby City, played by actress Chizzy Akudolu. She first appeared in the fourteenth series episode "Double Bubble", broadcast on 22 May 2012. Mo is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon and a member of Holby's transplant team. She was introduced along with two other regular characters by the show's then executive producer Johnathan Young, who wanted more "truthful and complicated" characters in the series. When Akudolu read the character breakdown for Mo and learned that she was on the transplant team, she knew she wanted the part because she was passionate about organ donation as her brother has had a kidney transplant. The actress met with a heart consultant to help her prepare for the role.
Jonny Maconie is a fictional character from the BBC medical drama Holby City, played by actor Michael Thomson. He first appeared in the fourteenth series episode "Wolf's Clothing", broadcast on 15 May 2012. Jonny is a clinical nurse manager and Holby City Hospital's transplant coordinator. He was introduced along with two other regular cast members by the show's then executive producer Johnathan Young, who wanted more "truthful and complicated" characters in the series. Thomson attended two auditions, before he learned that he had won the part of Jonny. To help him prepare for the role, Thomson went on a tour of a real-life hospital with a heart surgeon. Thomson confirmed his departure from the show in April 2015 and Jonny made his screen exit on 14 April. He returned for a guest appearance on 23 June.
Guy Self is a fictional character from the BBC medical drama Holby City played by John Michie. He first appeared in the sixteenth series episode "Sink or Swim", broadcast on 26 November 2013. Guy is a consultant neurosurgeon and Holby City Hospital's chief executive officer (CEO) until he resigns from his CEO position. The character also appeared in Holby City's sister show, Casualty. Guy departed in the nineteenth series episode "Song of Self – Part Two", but returned for a nine episode guest stint later in the series. Michie has since reprised the role on three occasions: for one episode in 2018, ten episodes in 2020, and one episode in 2022.

Adele Effanga is a fictional character from the BBC medical drama Holby City, played by actress Petra Letang. She first appeared in the series fifteen episode "Intuition", broadcast on 14 January 2014. Adele arrives at Holby City hospital to start her role as a Healthcare Assistant on the hospital's AAU ward and is introduced as the sister of established character Mo Effanga. Adele is characterised as a "outgoing and friendly" person who plays up to the "good-time girl" stereotype. Though she is hard working and striving towards forging a respected career in the medical profession. The character has a unique dress sense which is "girly and quirky". According to Letang, Adele often wears individual unmatched pieces which can be "outrageous" but often excites actress. She later transfers to the Darwin ward alongside Mo and her presence undermines an insecure Mo. Writers soon introduced more members of the Effenga family including their mother and sister. Following the discovery that Mo is actually Adele's cousin the pair begin to feud.

"Episode 1102" is the fiftieth episode of the twenty-third series of the British medical drama television series Holby City, and the 1102nd episode of the overall series. It is also Holby City's final ever episode after the show was cancelled by the BBC. The episode was written by Joe Ainsworth and directed by David Innes Edwards, and premiered on BBC One on 29 March 2022. The show's production team promised fans they would create an ending "it deserves" and began rewriting stories. The writers were used to scripting the show as a continuing drama but the show's end meant they could create closure for all featured characters. Producers were loath to introduce dramatic stunts or explosions in the finale. They favoured an emotional approach with stories that paid homage to the NHS, which they believed were Holby City's "roots".
