Christian Cantwell (born September 30, 1980 in Jefferson City, Missouri) is a World Champion American shot putter. He placed 4th at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. [1]
Cantwell's personal best throw is 22.54 metres, or 73 ft 11½ in, set in Gresham, Oregon on June 5, 2004. His best outdoor season to date was 2006, in which he had 8 of the 10 longest throws in the year. [2] He was born in Jefferson City, Missouri and attended Eldon High School in Eldon. He graduated in 1999. In 2003, he attended the University of Missouri. [3] He won a silver medal in 2008 Summer Olympics at Beijing, China on August 15, 2008 with his final throw of 21.09 metres, the gold winner was Tomasz Majewski of Poland. At the Berlin World Championships in 2009, their positions were reversed as Cantwell took gold with a throw of 22.03 metres. [4] He won the gold medal at the 2010 World Indoor Championships. [5] At the 2011 World Championships, he took bronze with a throw of 21.36. [6]
He married USA Olympian Shot putter Teri Steer. They have one child, Jackson Daniel Cantwell born in 2008. Jackson is a 5-star offensive tackle prospect in the class of 2026. [7]
Nadzeya Astapchuk is a Belarusian shot putter. She briefly was designated the Olympic Champion in 2012, but was subsequently stripped of the title for failing a drug test and the gold medal was awarded to New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams. She was World Champion in 2005, but in March 2013, the IAAF reported that her drug test sample from that event had been retested and found to be positive.
Andrei Anatolyevich Mikhnevich is a Belarusian shot putter with a personal best of 21.69 metres, set in 2003. In 2013 he was banned from sports for life due to his second doping positive.
Michael Reese Hoffa is an American shot putter. Reese won the shot put in the 2006 World Indoor Track and Field Championships and in the 2007 World Outdoor Championships. He also won the bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. His personal bests stand at 22.11 m indoor and 22.43 m outdoor. In 2012, he threw over 21 meters in competition for the 100th time, putting him in rarefied air in the throwing community. Hoffa was adopted at the age of four.
Tomasz Majewski is a Polish shot putter and a double Olympic gold medalist. He is the third shot putter to successfully defend the Olympic title, first European to do so, and the first since Parry O'Brien in 1956.
George Woods was an American athlete who mainly competed in the shot put. Born in Portageville, Missouri, he moved to Sikeston, Missouri, as a baby. As a senior at Sikeston High School, Woods became the first Missouri high school athlete to top 60 ft, setting a Sikeston school record that still stands to this day. He would go on to attend Southern Illinois University.

Michelle Denee Carter is an American shot putter. She is the former American record holder in the event with a distance of 20.63 m set at the 2016 Olympic Games. She was inducted into the Texas Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2018.
David Storl is a German track and field athlete who specialises in the shot put. Joseph Mathias Kovacs is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and has a personal record of 23.23 meters outdoors and 22.05 meters indoors. He won gold medals at the 2015 and 2019 World Championships. He won silver medals at the 2017 World Championships, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. Ryan Crouser is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and discus. He specializes in the shot put, in which he is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a three-time World Champion. He holds the world record in the shot put, both indoors and outdoors. He set the outdoor world record at 23.56 meters in May 2023, improving upon his previous record of 23.37 m from July 2021. He has held the indoor record of 22.82 m since January 2021.
Raven Saunders is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and discus throw. They were the silver medalist in shot put at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, throwing a distance of 19.79 m. They won three NCAA collegiate titles in the shot put for the University of Mississippi. They were a world junior medalist in 2014 and the Pan American junior champion in 2015. They hold a personal record of 19.96 m for the shot put. They received a 18 month doping ban in 2023 for incurring three whereabouts failures.
Felisha Nayomie Johnson is an American track and field athlete who specialises in the shot put. She was the 2015 national indoor champion in the weight throw. She won two NCAA collegiate titles in that event for the Indiana State Sycamores.
Maggie Ewen is an American shot putter. Maggie Ewen earned bronze medal when she threw the discus 59.00 m in Toronto at 2018 NACAC Championships, placed fourth in the shot put at 2019 World Athletics Championships and competed in the women's hammer throw at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. Ewen set collegiate outdoor records in shot put and hammer.

Chase Foster Jackson is an American track and field athlete specializing in throwing events. She won the gold medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in women’s shot put, which made her the first American woman to win a shot put world title at the World Athletics Championships. She won on the first attempt which, according to Olympic historian Bill Mallon, made her the first woman’s shot put world champion to win on the first attempt.
