Christina Marie Birch (born November 17, 1986) is an American professional racing cyclist and NASA astronaut candidate.
Birch grew up in Gilbert, Arizona, and graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, biochemistry, and molecular biophysics. Birch began cycling with the MIT cycling team while working on her PhD. While at MIT she won the 2014 USA Cycling collegiate cyclocross division two national championship. Birch also represented the JAM Fund cyclocross team from 2011-2015. [1]
After earning a doctorate in biological engineering from MIT in 2015, Birch moved to Southern California to pursue track cycling full time. She taught bioengineering at the University of California, Riverside, and scientific writing and communication at the California Institute of Technology. On the track, Birch has represented the US at multiple Pan American Championships, World Cups, and World Championships. She competed at the 2018 and 2019 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, and the 2019 Pan American Games. [2]
Birch was named to the US track cycling 2020 Olympics long team for the USA in June 2020. [3]
On December 6, 2021, Birch was formally announced as a NASA astronaut candidate with NASA Astronaut Group 23. [4]
She is a partner of a racing cyclist Ashton Lambie. [6]

Karen Dunne is a retired female professional cyclist from the United States. She is best known for winning the gold medal at the women's individual road race at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She also won 11 U.S. National Championships: 3 Elite, 3 Collegiate, and 5 Mixed Tandem. Her cycling career began while attending Indiana University in Bloomington where she won the 1991 Women's Little 500.
Dame Laura Rebecca Kenny, OLY is a former British professional track and road cyclist who specialised in track endurance events, specifically the team pursuit, omnium, scratch race, elimination race and madison disciplines. With six Olympic medals, having won both the team pursuit and the omnium at both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and madison at the 2020 Olympics, along with a silver medal from the team pursuit at the 2020 Olympics, she is both the most successful female cyclist, and the most successful British female athlete, in Olympic history.

Valente has ridden for UCI Women's Team Virginia's Blue Ridge–TWENTY24. She has won multiple gold medals in team pursuit championships and earned an Olympic silver medal in the team pursuit in 2016.
Daniel Holloway is an American cyclist, who previously rode for American amateur team Texas Roadhouse Racing. Holloway specialized in criteriums, track racing, and six-day racing. During his career, Holloway has won over 20 national titles, a Pan American title in 2018, and a gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games. On June 2, 2021, Daniel Holloway announced his retirement from professional cycling. On September 3, 2023, Daniel Holloway returned to the men's Pro Peloton at The Gateway Cup to be the first cyclist to ever race, film and narrate with live color commentary.
