Christina Jackbin Nanghali Van-Dunem Da Fonsech-Shikongo (born 1978) is a Namibian police officer. She holds the rank of chief inspector in the Namibian Police Force and is known as the "Nampol Iron Lady" for her role in establishing and revamping the community policing initiatives especially in the Khomas region. She is also known for cracking down fake pastors and unscrupulous traditional healers. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Private life

Born Christina Jackbin Nanghali Fonsech in Oshakati, her father is an Angolan trader and her mother is Namibian. She changed her surname in 2015 to Van-Dunem Da Fonsech, [5] and added the surname of her husband Elia Shikongo in 2020.

At an early age she felt abandoned and she never had an opportunity to be raised by her biological parents and she grew up without knowing her biological mother. She had been moving from one home to other that made her up bring a difficult. This led her to dropping out of school in grade nine and working as nanny. Due to her financial circumstances, she was among the children that the former president Sam Nujoma paid school fees for, in 1992. [1] [6] [7]

Van-Dunem Da Fonsech-Shikongo has two children, born in 2003 and 2005. [5]

Career

Da Fonsech-Shikongo joined the Namibian police in 2003, a week after giving birth to her firstborn. After her police training she was stationed in Oshana region. In 2012, she was transferred to Windhoek, where she headed the regional community affairs office, holding the rank of chief inspector. [6]

During the police leadership of the retired inspector general Sebastain Ndeitunga, Da Fonsech-Shikongo was known for arresting self proclaimed traditional doctors and prophets especially in informal settlements around Windhoek. [8] [9] With Da Fonsech-Shikongo leading the team the police where able to find rescue some citizens who are kept in those churches against they will. In 2018 they were able to rescue a young woman who has been in hostage for three years after she left her job, sold her belonging and came to leave in the church. [10] The police conduct these type of operations due to complains that community members rise against the traditional doctors and self proclaimed prophets. [9]

The Equestrian Monument, more commonly known under its German original name Reiterdenkmal and the name Südwester Reiter, was a monument in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. The Namibian Police Force (NAMPOL) is the national police force of Namibia. It was established by the Namibian Constitution and enacted by an act of Parliament. The Namibian Police Force replaced the South West African Police as the national police force of the country in 1990. Sebastian Ndeitunga was its inspector general since 2005 to 2022. Joseph Shikongo is the current inspector general. NAMPOL's functions are overseen by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security.

Lieutenant General (rtd) Sebastian Ndeitunga is a Namibian police officer and politician, currently serving as a regional governor of Ohangwena Region. He was inspector general of the Namibian Police Force from 2005 to 2022.

Ben Shikongo is a Namibian cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Namibia in the 2017–18 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup on 8 February 2018. Prior to his first-class debut, he was named in Namibia's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his List A debut for Namibia in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge on 11 February 2018.

Same-sex unions are currently not performed in Namibia. The Supreme Court ruled 4–1 on 16 May 2023 that same-sex marriages concluded outside of Namibia should be recognised for residency purposes. A bill seeking to overturn the ruling is currently pending in the Parliament of Namibia.

Utaara Mootu is a Namibian politician, youth leader and activist. She is an elected member of the Parliament of Namibia following the 2019 elections, representing the Landless People's Movement (Namibia) and serves as the party's parliamentary spokesperson.

The 2020 Phala Phala Robbery or Cyril Ramaphosa Farm Burglary or Farmgate Scandal was a burglary of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s private Phala Phala game farm near Bela-Bela, Limpopo, South Africa. The incident occurred on 9 February 2020 in which an indeterminate amount of cash was stolen. Arthur Fraser, an ally of former President Jacob Zuma alleged that around 4 million US dollars of undeclared foreign currency had been stolen. However, subsequent reports indicated that the amount stolen was $580 000 Ramaphosa denied any wrongdoing, and sought judicial review of a report by a panel appointed by the South African Parliament released in 2022 that accused him of "serious misconduct". Opposition parties and MPs have slammed investigations into the source of the cash, and have accused the South African Reserve Bank of a providing claptrap report and systemic coverup. The Democratic Alliance intends to pursue the courts to further investigate the matter.

Lieutenant General Joseph Shimweelao Shikongo is the Inspector General of Namibian Police Force. He was appointed by President Hage Geingob on the 22 August 2022, Shikongo resume his duty officially on the 1 September 2022. Shikongo is replacing the retired Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga.

The 2022–23 Namibia Premier League is the 1st full season of the Namibia Premier Football League, the top-tier football league in Namibia.
