CipherCloud is an American software company providing cloud computing security to businesses. The company was established in 2010 and is based out of San Jose, California.

History

CipherCloud was founded in 2010 by Pravin Kothari, who previously co-founded ArcSight. [2] The company launched in February 2011 and initially worked in Salesforce.com environments. [3] It added Amazon Web Services integration in 2011. [4] CipherCloud released its Gmail security service in June 2012. [5] By September 2012, CipherCloud's platform could secure Force.com, Chatter, Microsoft Office 365. [6] It also launched Connect AnyApp, which allowed users to specify Web pages of an application to be secured. [6]

CipherCloud closed a $30 million funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz and Index Ventures in December 2012. [7] [8] [2] Deutsche Telekom also participated in the funding round through T-Ventures, the telecommunications company's venture capital arm. [9] John M. Jack, a partner at Andreessen Horowitz and former CEO of Fortify Software, joined the CipherCloud board following the investment. [7] [8] The company opened its European headquarters in London, England in the same month. [10] CipherCloud added an Australian headquarters in 2013. [11]

In February 2013, CipherCloud joined Box Inc., an online file sharing and cloud-content management service, to bring CipherCloud's security to file-sharing and file-hosting services such as Box. [12] In January 2014, CipherCloud acquired CloudUp Networks. [13] CloudUp Networks' software was in the area of tracking and authorized data management in the cloud environments. [14]

In April 2014, CipherCloud released a new product, CipherCloud for Cloud Discovery. [15] Cloud Discovery was built to analyze firewall and proxy logs of cloud applications in use (Shadow IT), as well as evaluate the risks those applications might represent to the organization. [16]

In November 2014, the company announced closing its Series B funding round of $50 million. Transamerica Ventures led the round, joined by Delta Partners, and existing investors Andreessen Horowitz and T-Ventures, the venture capital arm of Deutsche Telekom. [17]

Technology

According to Gartner's reviews, CipherCloud's CASB+ platform shares the features similar to other major cloud services providers: data protection, adaptive access control, threat protection and centralized compliance capabilities across different SaaS and IaaS clouds. [18]

Box was founded in 2005 by Aaron Levie and Dylan Smith. Initially, it focused on consumers, but around 2009 and 2010 Box pivoted to focus on business users. The company raised about $500 million over numerous funding rounds, before going public in 2015. Its software allows users to store and manage files in an online folder system accessible from any device. Users can then comment on the files, share them, apply workflows, and implement security and governance policies.

Andreessen Horowitz is a private American venture capital firm, founded in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz. The company is headquartered in Menlo Park, California. As of April 2023, Andreessen Horowitz ranks first on the list of venture capital firms by assets under management.

Actifio was a privately held information technology firm headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts. The company specialised in copy data virtualization for making information technology infrastructure more efficient by reducing unnecessary duplication of data. On December 3, 2020, Google announced it intended to acquire Actifio for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition closed on Monday Dec 14, 2020.

SnapLogic is a commercial software company that provides integration platform as a service (iPaaS) tools for connecting cloud data sources, SaaS applications and on-premises business software applications. SnapLogic was founded in 2006, and its headquarters are in San Mateo, California. SnapLogic is headed by Ex-CEO and co-founder of Informatica Gaurav Dhillon, and is venture-backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Ignition Partners, Floodgate Fund, Brian McClendon, and Naval Ravikant.

Meteor, or MeteorJS, is a partly proprietary, mostly free and open-source isomorphic JavaScript web framework written using Node.js. Meteor allows for rapid prototyping and produces cross-platform code. The server-side MongoDB program is the only proprietary component of Meteor and is part of the Meteor download bundle. It is possible to use Meteor without using the server-side MongoDB. It uses the Distributed Data Protocol and a publish–subscribe pattern to automatically propagate data changes to clients without requiring the developer to write any synchronization code. On the client, Meteor can be used with any popular front-end JS framework, Vue, React, Svelte, Angular, or Bazel.

Users could select and change mobile voice, text, and data services, as well as manage devices, plan sharing and permissions, directly from smart devices at any time.

Tidemark is a private enterprise performance management firm founded in 2010 that provides cloud-based analytics applications built for a mobile device enabled platform.
