The Clarence Strait is a narrow strait separating the Iranian island of Qeshm from the Iranian mainland. It is the much smaller counterpart to the Strait of Hormuz. The native name for the strait is Khuran.

The Clarence Strait is host to the most extensive mangrove forest in the Persian Gulf, known locally as the Hara forests. The area has been designated as a protected Ramsar site since 1975. [1]

A Ramsar site is a wetland site designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, also known as "The Convention on Wetlands", an international environmental treaty signed on 2 February 1971 in Ramsar, Iran, under the auspices of UNESCO. It came into force on 21 December 1975, when it was ratified by a sufficient number of nations. It provides for national action and international cooperation regarding the conservation of wetlands, and wise sustainable use of their resources. Ramsar identifies wetlands of international importance, especially those providing waterfowl habitat.

It is navigable for craft of up to 6 metres draught in its northern part and is used for commercial traffic to Nykøbing Falster. The Ord River floodplain is the floodplain of the lower Ord River in the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley, in the Kimberley region of northern Western Australia. It lies within the Victoria Bonaparte IBRA bioregion and contains river, seasonal creek, tidal mudflat and floodplain wetlands, with extensive stands of mangroves, that support saltwater crocodiles and many waterbirds. Khuran-e Sofla is a village in Nabovat Rural District, in the Central District of Eyvan County, Ilam Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 166, in 26 families. The village is populated by Kurds.

Ain Elshakika Wetland is a Ramsar-protected wetland of Libya within the El Kouf National Park. The wetland reserve was established in 2000, and covers an area of 33 hectares. The site consists of a hypersaline coastal sebkha with limestone rock formations to the south, dunes and mudflats with extensive shrubs from west to east.

The waterway forms part of the Alaska Marine Highway and as such, is used by charter, commercial fishing, and recreational vessels, as well as commercial freight barges and tanks, kayaks and passenger ferries. A proposal to build the Gravina Island Bridge across the Tongass Narrows was shelved due to a national-level controversy over the "bridge to nowhere".
