Claudio Casacci (born 1958) is an Italian space scientist and amateur astronomer, [2] who is credited by the Minor Planet Center with the discovery of several main-belt asteroids between 1995 and 1998. [1] He works at Thales Alenia Space in Turin, Italy. [3]

In 1995, the outer main-belt asteroid 4814 Casacci was named in his honour ( M.P.C. 25229). [2] [4]

Dennis K. It was they who had gavin him a pair of binoculars for Christmas, that ultimately led to his many asteroid discoveries. Naming citation was published on 20 March 2000.

Phaeo is an asteroid from the central regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 70 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 27 November 1891, by French astronomer Alphonse Borrelly at the Marseille Observatory in southern France. The presumably metallic X-type asteroid is the principal body of the Phaeo family and has a rotation period of 17.6 hours. It was named for the Greek mythological figure Phaeo, one of the Hyades or nymphs. Several other asteroids were named for other of the Hyades – 106 Dione, 158 Koronis, 217 Eudora, and 308 Polyxo.

5185 Alerossi, provisional designation 1990 RV2, is a background asteroid from the central region of the asteroid belt, approximately 13 miles (21 kilometers) in diameter. It was discovered on 15 September 1990, by American astronomer Henry Holt at Palomar Observatory in California, United States. The asteroid was later named for Italian geodesist Alessandro Rossi.

7675 Gorizia, provisional designation 1995 WT5, is a background asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 3 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 23 November 1995, by the staff at Farra d'Isonzo Observatory in northeastern Italy. It is named for the Italian town of Gorizia.

3255 Tholen, provisional designation 1980 RA, is a stony asteroid, Mars-crosser and relatively fast rotator, that measures approximately 5.1 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 2 September 1980, by American astronomer Edward Bowell at Lowell's Anderson Mesa Station in Flagstaff, Arizona. The S-type asteroid has a rotation period of 2.95 hours. It was later named after American astronomer David Tholen.

Atsushi Takahashi is a Japanese amateur astronomer and discoverer of minor planets.

Malcolm Hartley is an English-born astronomer and a discoverer of minor planets and comets, who works with the UK Schmidt Telescope at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia.

Kin Endate is a Japanese amateur astronomer who has discovered hundreds of asteroids, most of them in collaboration with Kazuro Watanabe, placing him among the most prolific discoverers of minor planets.
