Both species in the genus are commonly known as Sôhachi in Japan. [1] [2]

Etymology

The genus is named after the Athenian noble and democrat Cleisthenes.

Triplophysa herzensteini is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Triplophysa , it is placed in the subgenus Labiatophysa which is regarded by some authorities a valid genus.

Cleisthenes herzensteini is a flatfish of the family Pleuronectidae. It is a demersal fish that lives on bottoms in the temperate waters of the northwest Pacific, from the Sea of Okhotsk to the Sea of Japan, Yellow Sea, Gulf of Bohai and the East China Sea. It can grow up to 47 centimetres (19 in) in length, though its length is typically around 31 centimetres (12 in). Its maximum recorded weight is 1.215 kilograms (2.68 lb), and it can live for up to 15 years.

Asprocottus intermedius is a species of ray-finned fish belonging to the family Cottidae, the typical sculpins. It was described by Dmitrii Nikolaevich Taliev in 1955, originally as a subspecies of Asprocottus herzensteini. It is a freshwater fish which is endemic to Lake Baikal, Russia. It is known to dwell at a depth range of 200–800 metres.

Bentartia is a genus of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Zoarcidae, the eelpouts. Some authorities treat this genus as monospecific, with the only species being Bentartia cinerea of the Southern Ocean, but other authorities include 4 species from the eastern Pacific Ocean.
