The College of Agriculture in Gonbad [1] was first established as a junior college in 1985 in the city of Gonbad-e Qabus, Iran. The junior college changed into the Gonbad College in 1999. Associate degree courses in several fields such as crop production and technology, forest technology, range and watershed management, wood technology, fisheries and animal sciences are offered at the college.

Gonbad-e Qabus or Gonbad-e Qabus Tower is a monument in Gonbad-e Qabus, Iran, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012. It marks the grave of Ziyarid ruler Qabus, and was built during his lifetime in 1006/7. It is a cylindrical tomb tower that reaches c. 61 metres and can be seen from some 30 kilometres away. The eponymous city is named after the monument.

Located in the historic city of Gonbad-e Kavus, Gonbad Kavous University is the major higher education institution in the eastern part of Golestan Province, Iran. Officially accredited/recognized by the Ministry of Science Research and Technology, Iran, the university is a public and coeducational higher education institution and it offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degrees in several areas of study. Gonbad Kavous University also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.
