Collins Kipruto (born 12 April 1994) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner specializing in the 800 metres. He was the overall winner of the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Tour in the 800 m.
Collins is from Nyahururu, Kenya where he is a Kenya Wildlife Service officer in addition to his athletics career. [2]
At the 2019 Penn Relays, Kipruto anchored the winning Kenyan sprint medley relay team with a 1:47.16 split. [4] [5] This performance led to him qualifying for the 2019 IAAF World Relays, where he competed in the new mixed 2 × 2 × 400 m relay with women's teammate Eglay Nafuna Nalyanya. The team finished 4th across the line, but was later disqualified due to Nalyanya accidentally stepping inside the track. [6]
Kipruto was a regular on the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Tour series, which concluded in February 2020. By virtue of winning the 800 m at the Copernicus Cup, Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais, and the Villa de Madrid Indoor Meeting, Kipruto was the overall Tour winner in the 800 m category. [1]
In March 2021, Kipruto criticised Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta's COVID-19 policies requiring athletes to train alone, saying that they would negatively affect his preparations for international competitions. [7]
At the February 2022 Meeting de l’Eure, Kipruto held off Noah Kibet to win the 800 m in a meeting record of 1:47.05. [8] With the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships qualifying standard achieved, Kipruto was targeting a podium finish, stating that he knew a win would not be easy considering the competition such as American athlete Craig Engels. [9] At the World Indoor Championships, Kipruto finished fourth in his heat and did not qualify for the finals. [1]

Kim Collins is a former Kittitian track and field sprinter. In 2003, he became the World Champion in the 100 metres. He represented his country at the Summer Olympics on five occasions, from 1996 to 2016, and was the country's first athlete to reach an Olympic final. He competed at ten editions of the World Championships in Athletics, from 1995 to 2015, winning five medals. He was a twice runner-up in the 60 metres at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. At regional level, he was a gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games and a silver medallist at the Pan American Games. As of 2023, he is the only Individual World Championships Gold medallist from Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The 800 metres, or meters, is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track.
Wilfred Kipkemboi Bungei is a Kenyan retired Middle-distance runner, who won the 800 m gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He also won at the World indoor Championships in Moscow 2006 the 800 metres title, defeating Mbulaeni Mulaudzi and Olympic Champion Yuriy Borzakovskiy in the course of the race.

Brenda Martinez is an American middle-distance runner and Olympian. Born in Upland, California, she won a silver medal in the 800 meters at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow and finished first in the 800 meters at the 2014 Diamond League Final. She represented the US at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 1500 meters. Martinez twice set the world record in the Distance Medley Relay at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston; first on February 7, 2015, and then breaking her own record on January 28, 2017. In 2016, Martinez qualified for the U.S. Olympic team competing in the 1500 meters after beating Amanda Eccleston by 0.03 seconds.
Chanelle Price is an American middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter run. She has a personal record of 1:59.10 for the distance. She was the gold medalist at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2014.
Craig Engels is an American middle-distance runner. He competed for the United States at the 2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, where he won the men's 1500 meters. In the 2016 USA Olympic Trials Engels was focused on making the semi-finals of the 800m and was listed as an alternate for the 1500m. He finished 4th in the 800m final and 5th in the 1500m final, missing out on the Olympics in both events.
Raevyn Rogers is an American middle-distance athlete. She won a bronze medal in the 800 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the fourth fastest woman in U.S. history in the event. At the 2019 World Championships, Rogers came from seventh with 100m remaining in the race to place silver over USA teammate Ajeé Wilson in bronze. She earned a world indoor title as a member of national 4x400 m relay squad that took gold at the 2018 World Indoor Championships.
Christopher Carl "Chris" Giesting is an American track and field sprinter who competes in the 400-meter dash. He was a gold medalist in the 4 × 400-meter relay at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He ran collegiately for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and won one NCAA indoor title.
