Route 177 is a state highway in central Connecticut, running from Plainville to Canton.
Route 177 begins as Town Line Road at an intersection with Route 10 in Plainville, just north of the Southington town line. It heads west for 0.2 miles (0.32 km) then turns north onto South Washington Street. From this intersection, South Washington Street continues one way southbound into Southington as Birch Street (SR 532), and ends at Route 10. Route 177 continues north along South Washington Street to the town center of Plainville, where it intersects with Route 372 and becomes North Washington Street. After crossing the Pequabuck River, it soon has a junction with Route 72, connecting with it via a partial interchange allowing access to and from points east. North of the intersection, the road becomes Unionville Avenue as it continues north into the town of Farmington.
In Farmington, the road becomes Plainville Avenue and continues north across the southwestern part of town, passing Tunxis Community College before intersecting with U.S. Route 6 about 0.6 miles (0.97 km) north of the town line. Route 177 soon enters the Unionville section of Farmington, where the road becomes South Main Street. After crossing the Farmington River into the center of Unionville, it intersects Route 4. North of here, Route 177 continues as Lovely Street. Route 177 runs about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) in the western portion of the town of Avon then enters the town of Canton. The road ends 0.7 miles (1.1 km) later at an intersection with US 44 and US 202 near Bond Pond in Canton center. [1]
The route from Plainville to Unionville was designated in 1922 as State Highway 160, while that from Unionville to Canton center was known as State Highway 320. In the 1932 state highway renumbering, [2] these two state highways were combined into a single route, Route 177. Similar to the older highways it replaced, Route 177 originally ran from Route 372 (then Route 72) in Plainville to its current northern terminus at US 44 in Canton. In 1962, it was extended south to its current southern terminus. [3]

Route 3 is a 14.48-mile-long (23.30 km) route connecting Middletown to the Glastonbury-East Hartford town line. It passes through the towns of Cromwell, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield, and Glastonbury. The northernmost 3 miles (4.8 km) of Route 3 is a freeway that was originally intended for the cancelled Interstate 491.
Route 4 is an east–west primary state highway connecting rural Litchfield County to the Greater Hartford area of the U.S. state of Connecticut. It runs 46.72 miles (75.19 km) from the town of Sharon to the town of West Hartford.
Route 72 is a state highway in the western part of the Greater Hartford area. Route 72 is an L-shaped route with a north–south section in Plymouth and Harwinton and an east–west section from Bristol to New Britain. Route 72 is a freeway from Route 9 in New Britain to Route 372 in Plainville. Although ConnDOT logs it as a north-south route, it is signed as east-west with the exception of signage on route 4 at its northwest terminus for route 72 south.
Route 159 is a 21.14-mile-long (34.02 km) state highway connecting the Hartford and Springfield areas in the U.S. states of Connecticut and Massachusetts. It begins as the northern extension of Main Street in Hartford and proceeds northward along the west bank of the Connecticut River towards Agawam, Massachusetts. The route ends at the junction of Route 147 and Route 75 in Agawam center just south of the West Springfield city line. The route was originally designated as U.S. Route 5A in 1932 and was renumbered to its modern designation in October 1968.
Route 75 in the U.S. states of Connecticut and Massachusetts is a 17.5-mile-long (28.2 km) scenic route connecting the Hartford, Connecticut, and Springfield, Massachusetts, areas. The route begins at Route 159 in the town of Windsor, Connecticut, and ends at the junction of Route 159/Route 147 in the city of Agawam, Massachusetts.
Route 83 is a 35.65-mile-long (57.37 km) north–south state highway in the Greater Hartford and Greater Springfield areas of the U.S. states of Connecticut and Massachusetts. It serves as the main north–south artery for the towns of Manchester, Vernon, Ellington, and Somers, and continues through East Longmeadow center into downtown Springfield. The route in Massachusetts is town-maintained, except for the ramps connecting to U.S. Route 5 parallel to Interstate 91.
Connecticut Route 10 is a state highway that runs between New Haven and the state line near Granby. It continues north of the state line as Massachusetts Route 10, which in turn continues directly to New Hampshire Route 10.
Route 71 is a north–south state highway in Connecticut, running from Wallingford to West Hartford. It is the main north–south road of Meriden, Berlin and New Britain.
U.S. Route 5 (US 5), a north–south United States Numbered Highway that is generally paralleled by Interstate 91 (I-91), begins at the city of New Haven in Connecticut and heads north through western Massachusetts and eastern Vermont to the international border with Canada. Within Connecticut, US 5 proceeds north from New Haven and passes through Meriden and Hartford toward Springfield, Massachusetts.
Route 120 is a state highway in Connecticut, running entirely in the town of Southington. It serves as a more direct connection between the town center of Southington and the city of Meriden.
Route 229 is a state highway in the western Greater Hartford area of the U.S. state of Connecticut. It runs north–south from Interstate 84 in Southington to U.S. Route 6 in Bristol. Along the way, it intersects Route 72 in the Forestville section of Bristol.
Route 187 is a 27.23-mile-long (43.82 km) secondary state route in the U.S. states of Connecticut and Massachusetts. It begins in the city of Hartford at Albany Avenue, travels north through the towns of Bloomfield, Windsor, East Granby and Suffield until the Connecticut-Massachusetts state line. Route 187 continues north across the state line through Agawam into Westfield, where the route ends at US 20 east of Westfield center. Route 187 crosses the Farmington River between the towns of Bloomfield and East Granby.
Route 167 is a Connecticut state highway in the western suburbs of Hartford, running from the Unionville section of Farmington to Simsbury center.
Route 179 is a state highway in northern Connecticut, running from Burlington to Hartland.
In Connecticut, U.S. Route 202 is usually signed as an east–west route. It enters from the New York state line in Danbury overlapped with U.S. Route 6 and ends at the Massachusetts state line in Granby overlapped with Route 10. Although the route serves no major city centers for most of its run, with the largest city being Danbury, it does pass through Hartford County, serving the northern fringe of Greater Hartford. US 202 is overlapped with other routes for most of its length.
Route 185 is a Connecticut state highway in the western Hartford suburbs, running from Simsbury to West Hartford.
Route 189 is a 22.43-mile-long (36.10 km) state route in the U.S. states of Connecticut and Massachusetts. The route begins in the northwestern portion of the Connecticut state capital of Hartford and ends in the rural town of Granville. In Massachusetts, the route is not a state highway and is maintained by the town of Granville.
Route 218 is a 7.00-mile (11.27 km) state highway in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is located in the northwestern suburbs of Hartford, traveling in an L-shaped pattern from West Hartford to Windsor.
Route 372 is a 14.95-mile (24.06 km) state highway in Hartford and Middlesex counties in central Connecticut, United States, running from Plainville to Cromwell, and serving to communicate between the numerous freeways in the area. The section of Route 372 from Route 10 in Plainville to the Plainville-New Britain town line is designated the Joseph E. Tinty Memorial Highway. The section of Route 372 from the interchange with Route 72 in New Britain to the intersection with Route 71A and SR 571 in Berlin is designated the Polish Legion of American Veterans Memorial Highway.
The Tunxis Trail is a 79-mile (127 km) Blue-Blazed hiking trail "system" that traverses the western ridge of the central Connecticut Valley. The mainline trail is not completely contiguous, notably there are two gaps of several miles.
