Corinne Lisette Hofman FBA (born 10 July 1959) [1] is a Dutch professor of Caribbean Archaeology at Leiden University since 2007.
Hofman was born in Wassenaar. [1] She obtained a PhD at Leiden University in 1993 investigating Precolonial Saba. [1] She became a full professor in 2007 and dean of the faculty of Archaeology in 2013.
In 2013 Hofman won the Merian Prize of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. The Merian Prize is awarded to excelling women scientists, inspiring others to pursue a career in science. [2] In 2014 she was one of four winners of the Dutch Spinoza Prize and received a 2,5 million euro grant. [3] Since 2015 Hofman has been a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. [4] Hofman was elected a member of Academia Europaea in 2016. [5] In 2018 she was elected a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy. [6] [7] She is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the archaeology journal Antiquity. [8]
In 2023 University of Leiden placed her on leave to investigate long-running cases of intimidation, discrimination, abuse of power and violation of scientific integrity violation. The accusations related to Hofman and her husband, and fellow member of archaeology department, Menno Hoogland. [9] The following year, the University of Leiden published an anonymised report that substantiated the accusations. [10] The report "describes a decades-long culture of fear in which Hofman and Hoogland exhibited transgressive behaviour, violated scientific integrity, abused their power and possibly committed criminal offences." [11]

Pieter Timotheus "Tim" de Zeeuw is a Dutch astronomer specializing in the formation, structure and dynamics of galaxies. From 2007 to 2017 he was the director general of European Southern Observatory. He is married to astronomer Ewine van Dishoeck. In May 2022, Leiden University suspended him after an internal review concluded that over several years he repeatedly belittled and insulted women in public and abused his position of power as a professor by threatening to damage their scientific careers; and that in addition to intimidation and inappropriate behavior there was "a component of sexual harassment". The Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics announced that they will no longer work with him and the European Southern Observatory banned him from accessing their premises.
Patricia Maria (Patti) Valkenburg is a Distinguished Professor of Communication at the University of Amsterdam. She is the founder and director of Center for research on Children, Adolescents, and the Media (CCAM). She is a fellow of the International Communication Association. In 2011, she received the Spinoza Prize, the highest Dutch award in science.
