Corporate Property Investors was a real estate investment trust that built several notable shopping centers, including Lenox Square in Atlanta, the Burlington Mall in Massachusetts, and Roosevelt Field Mall in New York.

History

CPI was founded in 1971 by Disque Deane. [1]

From 1977 to 1998, fashion buyer and pioneering art patron Rosalind Gersten Jacobs was director of merchandise and marketing.

In 1982, the company financed the General Motors Building in Manhattan with $500 million and received an option to buy the building. [2] [3]

In 1991, the company acquired the General Motors Building for $500 million. [1]

In January 1998, The Rouse Company bid for the company. [4] However, Rouse was outbid and CPI was acquired by Simon Property Group. [5] [6]

The General Motors Building was sold separately to Donald Trump and CNO Financial Group for $800 million. [7]

Castleton Square Shopping mall in Indiana, United States

Castleton Square is an enclosed shopping mall in the Castleton neighborhood on the northeastern side of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Built by Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation and Homart Development Company in 1972, it is owned and managed by Simon Property Group. It is the largest mall in the state of Indiana, and has remained so since its construction. The center's original anchor stores were J. C. Penney, Sears, Lazarus, and Woolworth. Expansions in 1990 and 1998 added to the total number of anchor and inline stores, while also adding a food court. The anchor stores are JCPenney, Forever 21, H&M, AMC Theatres, Dick's Sporting Goods, Macy's, and Von Maur; the former location of Sears has been vacant since 2018. Overall, Castleton Square consists of over 130 inline stores.

Edward John DeBartolo Sr. was an American businessman. In 1971, his Ohio-based corporation was ranked as 47th among the nation's top 400 construction contractors. In 1983, DeBartolo was included on Forbes magazine's first Forbes 400 list of richest Americans.

666 Fifth Avenue is a 41-story office building on Fifth Avenue between 52nd and 53rd Streets in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The office tower was designed by Carson & Lundin and built in 1957.

Southland Center (Michigan) Shopping mall in Taylor, Michigan

Southland Center is an enclosed mall located at 23000 Eureka Road in Taylor, Michigan, exactly halfway between U.S. Highway 24 and the Interstate 75 freeway. The anchor stores are Cinemark Theatres, Forever 21, Best Buy, Shoe Carnival, JCPenney, and Macy's. Other major stores include H&M and Ulta Beauty. It is the newest of the Detroit area's four "land" malls. Southland Center opened on July 20, 1970. It is owned and managed by Brookfield Properties Retail Group, one of the largest mall owners in the United States.

Disque D. Deane was a prominent American financier and investor. He was the founder of, and a general partner in Starrett City Associates, which owns Starrett City in Brooklyn. Deane was at one time a partner at Lazard, the investment bank, where he revolutionized corporate finance by pioneering sale-leaseback transactions.

General Motors Building (Manhattan) Office skyscraper in Manhattan, New York

The General Motors Building is a 50-story, 705 ft (215 m) office tower at 767 Fifth Avenue, along Grand Army Plaza on the southeast corner of Central Park, in Manhattan, New York City. The building occupies an entire city block between Fifth Avenue, Madison Avenue, 59th Street, and 58th Street, on the site of the former Savoy-Plaza Hotel. It was designed in the International Style by Edward Durell Stone & Associates with Emery Roth & Sons and constructed between 1965 and 1968.

Glimcher Realty Trust was a real estate investment trust based in Columbus, Ohio that invested in shopping malls. In 2015, the company was acquired by Washington Prime Group.

Prologis, Inc. is a real estate investment trust headquartered in San Francisco, California that invests in logistics facilities, with a focus on the consumption side of the global supply chain. The company was formed through the merger of AMB Property Corporation and ProLogis in June 2011, which made Prologis the largest industrial real estate company in the world. As of December 31, 2020, the company owned 4,703 buildings comprising 984 million square feet in 19 countries in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Brookfield Property Partners L.P. is a global commercial real estate firm that is a publicly traded limited partnership and a subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management, an alternative asset management company. Its portfolio includes properties in the office, multi-family residential, retail, hospitality, and logistics industries throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. Its subsidiary Brookfield Properties is responsible for the management of these facilities.

CIM Group invests in commercial property on behalf of large institutions such as pensions. As of December 31, 2020, the company owned $29.2 billion worth of commercial property.
