Frances Ann "Fran" Ulmer is an American administrator and Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Alaska. She served as the seventh lieutenant governor of Alaska from 1994 to 2002 under Governor Tony Knowles,becoming the first woman elected to statewide office in Alaska,and lost the 2002 gubernatorial election against Republican Frank Murkowski. In 2007 she became the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA),before serving as Chair of the United States Arctic Research Commission between 2011 and 2020,appointed by President Barack Obama.
Anthony Carroll Knowles is an American politician and businessman who served as the seventh governor of Alaska from 1994 to 2002. Barred from seeking a third consecutive term as governor in 2002,he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in 2004 and again for governor in 2006. In September 2008,Knowles became president of the National Energy Policy Institute,a non-profit energy policy organization funded by billionaire George Kaiser's family foundation,and located at the University of Tulsa.
Loren Dwight Leman is an American politician who served as the eighth lieutenant governor of Alaska,from 2002 to 2006. Before that,he served in both houses of the state legislature,and was elected as the Senate Majority Leader by the end of his term. He served in office in electoral politics from 1989 to 2006. When Leman was elected as lieutenant governor in 2002,he was the first person of Alaska Native ancestry to be elected to statewide office in Alaska. He also has Russian-Polish ancestry.

Sean Randall Parnell is an American attorney and politician who was the tenth governor of Alaska from 2009 to 2014. He succeeded Sarah Palin in July 2009,and was elected governor in his own right in 2010 with 59.06% of the vote,as the largest percentage margin of any Alaska governor since statehood. In 2014,he narrowly lost his bid for re-election and returned to work in the private sector. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Outside of politics,he was known for his work as a radio broadcaster,most notably for KINY,and was inducted to the Alaskan Broadcaster Association's Hall of Fame in 2001.
Hollis S. French II is an American attorney,businessman and politician. He served in the Alaska Senate from 2003 to 2015. He was minority leader from January 2014 until he left office. During this time,French authored an unsuccessful bill to strike down the state's same-sex marriage ban. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

William Martin Walker is an American attorney and politician who served as the 11th governor of Alaska,from 2014 to 2018. He is the second Alaska-born governor,after William A. Egan.
The 2018 Alaska gubernatorial election took place on November 6,2018,to elect the governor and lieutenant governor of Alaska. In the primaries for recognized political parties,candidates for governor and lieutenant governor run separately. The winners of each respective primary for governor and lieutenant governor then become a joint ticket in the general election for their political party. Incumbent independent governor Bill Walker was running for re-election in what was originally a three-way race between Walker,Republican former state senator Mike Dunleavy,and Democratic nominee Mark Begich,a former U.S. Senator. However,Walker dropped out on October 19,2018,and endorsed Begich. In spite of Walker dropping out,Dunleavy defeated Begich in what would become the only gubernatorial gain by a Republican candidate in 2018. Walker later unsuccessfully ran for Governor of Alaska in 2022.
The 2022 Alaska's at-large congressional district special election was held on August 16,2022. Democrat Mary Peltola won the open seat,thereby becoming the first of her party to win a U.S. House election in Alaska since 1972. Peltola,who is a Yup'ik woman,is the first Alaska Native elected to Congress,and the first woman elected to represent Alaska in the House. She defeated Republican former governor Sarah Palin in the state's first ranked-choice general election.
