Cullberg Ballet (Swedish : Cullbergbaletten) is a Swedish contemporary dance company.

It was founded by the modern dancer and pioneer choreographer Birgit Cullberg in 1967, [1] who brought it to fame. After Cullberg's retirement in 1985 the company was until 1993 run by her son, the popular Swedish dancer, choreographer and stage director Mats Ek.

From 2003 Cullbergbaletten was managed by choreographer Johan Inger and from 2009 to 2013 Anna Grip [2] held the position as artistic director. From 2014 to 2022, Gabriel Smeets was the artistic director of the ballet. [3]

Cullberg Ballet is part of the National Swedish Touring Theatre [4] and tours both nationally and internationally.

Birgit Ragnhild Cullberg was a Swedish choreographer. Her father Carl Cullberg was a bank director and her mother was Elna Westerström. Cullberg was born in Nyköping and was married from 1942 to 1949 to actor Anders Ek. She was the mother of Niklas Ek in 1943, and twins Mats Ek, and Malin Ek in 1945.

Mats Ek is a Swedish dance and ballet choreographer, dancer and stage director. He was the manager of the Cullberg Ballet from 1985 to 1993.

Mona Elly Hou Vangsaae was a Danish ballet dancer, choreographer and instructor. At the Royal Danish Theatre, thanks to her excellent technique and dramatic versatility she became a soloist in 1942, taking roles in Bournonville's productions and in works by the Danish choreographers Nini Theilade and Harald Lander. The roles of Julie in Frederick Ashton's Romeo and Juliet and Aili in Birgit Cullberg's The Moon Reindeer were created for her. After retiring from the stage in 1962, she became an instructor for Bournonville's ballets together with her son Peter Schaufuss.
