On 17 December 2008, Cumerio and Norddeutsche Affinerie AG (NA) became Aurubis - Europe's biggest copper producer. [1]
Cumerio is (was) a copper refining company formed in 2005 by the division of the copper activity of Umicore. The Cumerio shares were first listed on Euronext Brussels on 29 April 2005, and delisted from Euronext Brussels on 17 December 2008 as a result of the squeeze-out after merging with Norddeutsche Affinerie AG.

In June 2007, the German copper processor Norddeutsche Affinerie AG (NA) expressed its interest to take over Cumerio. On 23 January 2008 the European Commission accepted the transaction. [2]
On 14 April 2008 Cumerio became part of the NA Group. This made it the largest copper producer in Europe.

Aurubis AG is a global supplier of non-ferrous metals and one of the world's largest copper recyclers. The company processes complex metal concentrates, scrap, organic and inorganic metal-bearing recycling materials and industrial residues into metals. Aurubis produces more than 1 million tons of copper cathodes per year and from these a variety of products such as wire rod, continuous cast shapes, profiles and flat rolled products in copper and copper alloys. Aurubis also produces a range of other metals, including precious metals, selenium, lead, nickel, tin and zinc. The portfolio also includes other products such as sulfuric acid and iron silicate.

The Bottom-blown Oxygen Converter or BBOC is a smelting furnace developed by the staff at Britannia Refined Metals Limited (“BRM”), a British subsidiary of MIM Holdings Limited. The furnace is currently marketed by Glencore Technology. It is a sealed, flat-bottomed furnace mounted on a tilting frame that is used in the recovery of precious metals. A key feature is the use of a shrouded lance to inject oxygen through the bottom of the furnace, directly into the precious metals contained in the furnace, to oxidize base metals or other impurities as part of their removal as slag.
The IsaKidd Technology is a copper electrorefining and electrowinning technology that was developed independently by Copper Refineries Proprietary Limited (“CRL”), a Townsville, Queensland subsidiary of MIM Holdings Limited, and at the Falconbridge Limited (“Falconbridge”) now-dismantled Kidd Creek refinery that was at Timmins, Ontario. It is based around the use of reusable cathode starter sheets for copper electrorefining and the automated stripping of the deposited “cathode copper” from them.
