Dante B. Canlas is a Filipino economist and a professor at the UP School of Economics at the University of the Philippines Diliman. He served as Socio-Economic Planning Secretary and concurrently Director-General of the National Economic and Development Authority from 2001 to 2002 under President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Dr. Canlas was also the Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Kazakhstan,Maldives,Marshall Islands,Mongolia,Pakistan,and the Philippines from 2003 to 2004.
He earned his B.S. in mathematics,M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of the Philippines,where he was a member of Upsilon Sigma Phi. [1] [2] He completed his dissertation "Marital Fertility and Working Wives in the Philippines:An Economic Analysis" in 1978. [3] He was Visiting Professor at Northern Illinois University in De Kalb,Illinois and Research Fellow at the prestigious Princeton University in New Jersey.
James Joseph Heckman is a Nobel Prize-winning American economist at the University of Chicago,where he is The Henry Schultz Distinguished Service Professor in Economics and the College;Professor at the Harris School of Public Policy;Director of the Center for the Economics of Human Development (CEHD);and Co-Director of Human Capital and Economic Opportunity (HCEO) Global Working Group. He is also Professor of Law at the Law School,a senior research fellow at the American Bar Foundation,and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. In 2000,Heckman shared the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Daniel McFadden,for his pioneering work in econometrics and microeconomics. The Upsilon Sigma Phi (ΥΣΦ) is the oldest Greek-letter organization and fraternity in Asia. Arsenio Molina Balisacan is a Filipino economist and academician currently serving as the Secretary of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA),the country's premier socioeconomic planning agency at the cabinet-level of government. NEDA is regarded as the primary body responsible for advancing social and economic development for the country,as well as for coordinating national policy planning,implementation,and monitoring. Balisacan first served as the NEDA Secretary back in May 2012 up until January 2016 under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III. He then served as the Chairperson of the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) from February 1,2016 to June 30,2022. Following his term at the PCC,he was once again appointed as NEDA Secretary under the administration of President Ferdinand 'Bong Bong' Marcos Jr. During his first term back in 2012,he concurrently served as NEDA Secretary and as Chairman of the Boards of the Philippine Statistics Authority,Philippine Institute for Development Studies,Philippine Center for Economic Development,and Public-Private Partnership Center.
