Darren Collins (born 24 May 1967) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker. [1] He is now assistant manager of non-league club Brackley Town.

He started his career with Petersfield Town before signing for Northampton Town [2] in January 1989. He made 40 appearances, plus another 9 as substitute, scoring 9 goals. During the 1990–91 season he moved to Aylesbury United, then Enfield before signing for Rushden & Diamonds in 1994. In six years at Nene Park he became the club's record goalscorer with 153 goals. [3] He joined Kettering in November 2000 for a £25,000 fee (equalling the club's record) and skippered them to the Southern League title. He joined Cambridge City in June 2002, transferred to Tamworth in December 2002 and, after helping them to promotion to the Conference, switched to Grantham Town in August 2003. He played briefly for Nuneaton Borough, had two years at Cogenhoe United before finishing his career at Wellingborough Town. [4] Even in his 40th year Collins was still a prolific goalscorer, [5] before finally retiring in May 2007.

During the 1992–93 English football season, Gillingham F.C. competed in the Football League Third Division, the fourth tier of the English football league system. It was the 61st season in which Gillingham competed in the Football League, and the 43rd since the club was voted back into the league in 1950. By October, the team were close to the bottom of the Third Division and Damien Richardson was dismissed from his job as the club's manager. Glenn Roeder was appointed as his replacement in a player-manager capacity. The team's performances remained poor and, with two games remaining, Gillingham still faced the possibility of finishing bottom of the league table and being relegated out of the Football League. Victory over Halifax Town in the penultimate match of the season, however, ensured that Gillingham would compete in the Third Division again in the following season. Roeder resigned as manager following the conclusion of the season after less than nine months in charge.
