Early life and education

Beran was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, and graduated from Lake Forest College in 2003.

Career

Beran was the executive chef at Next, which is co-owned by Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas. [1] He announced his departure from Next Restaurant on April 14, 2016, citing his desires to start his own restaurant in Los Angeles. [2] He owned and operated two restaurants in the Santa Monica neighborhood of Los Angeles: Dialogue, now permanently closed (one michelin star), and Pasjoli (one michelin star). [3]

Awards

Under Dave Beran's oversight, Next received the James Beard award for Best New Restaurant in 2012. [4]

After being nominated three times in the three years prior, for best new chef and for rising star chef, in 2014, Beran won the James Beard Foundation award for Best Chef: Great Lakes. [5]

Also in 2014, Beran, along with 10 other chefs from around the country, was included in the Food & Wine class of best new chefs. [6]

Personal life

Beran lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Jamie Schneiter, [7] and two French Bulldogs. Beran is an avid marathon runner and has been known to run the Chicago Marathon and show up to work a full day afterwards.[ citation needed ]

The James Beard Foundation Awards are annual awards presented by the James Beard Foundation to recognize chefs, restaurateurs, authors and journalists in the United States. They are scheduled around James Beard's May 5 birthday. The media awards are presented at a dinner in New York City; the chef and restaurant awards were also presented in New York until 2015, when the Foundation's annual gala moved to Chicago. Chicago will continue to host the Awards until 2027.

Suzanne Goin is a chef and restaurateur from Los Angeles, California. As a restaurateur, she runs three fine dining restaurants in the Los Angeles area: a.o.c., Lucques, and Tavern, which she runs with partner Caroline Styne, as well as four Larders, a marketplace/restaurant, Lucques Catering and the Larder Baking Company, a wholesale bakery. She is also co-founder of The Hungry Cat, with her husband, David Lentz. As an award-winning chef, she was named as one of Food & Wine Magazine's "best new chefs of 1999" and was nominated for James Beard awards as Outstanding Chef eight times, finally winning the coveted national award in 2016. Her restaurants have been praised by Gourmet magazine, Bon Appétit and Los Angeles Times. Early in her career 2006 Goin won the James Beard award for Best Chef: California as well as for her cookbook, Sunday Suppers at Lucques.

Gilles Epié French chef

Gilles Epié is a leading French chef. He was the youngest chef to receive the Michelin Star when he was 22 years old. He was the owner and Executive Chef of Citrus Etoile restaurant in Paris near the Champs-Elysées with his wife, Elizabeth Epié from 2005 to 2017. Currently, he is the Executive Chef at Turtle Bay Resort, a 5-star luxury hotel in Oahu, Hawaii.

Jennifer Yee is an American chef, specializing in pastry. Born and raised in San Francisco, she has worked in several pastry kitchens in some of New York's finest restaurants, including Lafayette in the NoHo neighborhood of Manhattan as Patissière, and The Grill in midtown Manhattan's Seagram Building, as the opening Pastry Chef. She is currently the Executive Pastry Chef for Chef Linton Hopkins' restaurants in Atlanta. Her work has been recognized by the James Beard Foundation in both New York and Atlanta.

Sepia is a mid-sized, upscale restaurant run by owner Emmanuel Nony and Executive Chef Andrew Zimmerman located in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Chef Zimmerman's menu is classified as New American cuisine, and focuses on local, seasonal products. Built in Chicago's Warehouse District, Sepia was originally a print shop from the 1890s. The renovation for the restaurant, designed by Gary Lee, included putting in a custom-tile, Art Nouveau floor and hand-crafted millwork in order to enhance the historical qualities of the building. Sepia also uses vintage stemware for their tables matching the vintage interior decor of the restaurant.

COTE Korean Steakhouse is owned and operated by Simon Kim, a Korean-American restaurateur. In 2021, the National Restaurant Association, which represents 1 million restaurant and foodservice outlets and a workforce of 15.6 million employees, elected Kim to serve on their board.
