Joppie is a former Lakewood High School graduate,Aquinas College baseball player and men's college basketball official. He worked games in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference,Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference for almost 20 years,deciding to retire from officiating after the 2009–2010 basketball season to concentrate exclusively on baseball.[1]
In his first season with the Cougars,Joppie guided them to a first-place finish in the Midwest League West Division with a record of 83-56 (.597),but lost the final series to the West Michigan Whitecaps. At the end of the season,he was named both Midwest League Manager of the Year and Baseball America's Class Low-A Minor League Manager of the Year. In 2005,his team finished with a mark of 70-69 (.504) and failed to secure a playoff berth.[2]
He continued his success as a hitting coach upon coming to Double-A Portland Sea Dogs in 2008,where he guided the team to the best on-base percentage in the 12-team Eastern League in his first season (.351) and in 2010 (.347).[3]
In 2011 the Sea Dogs topped the league in runs (684),doubles (298) and slugging average (.422),along with the second best on-base pct. (.339) and the third best in batting average (.267). The Portland hitters batted for a combined .255 average in 2012,while leading the league in doubles (272) and ending fourth in home runs (112).[3]
He gained a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox of the International League for the 2013 season.[1] and returned to Pawtucket in the same capacity in 2014 helping guide the Paw Sox' hitters to the International League championship.
For the 2015 season,Joppie headed back to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs for his tenth and final year with the Boston Red Sox organization.

From 2012 through 2018, he managed the Norfolk Tides of the International League, Triple-A farm system affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. His 2018 season with Norfolk was his 14th season as a Triple-A manager; he formerly helmed the Pawtucket Red Sox of the International League (2005–09), and the Omaha Royals (1998) and Omaha Golden Spikes (1999) of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League.
Carlos Manuel Febles is a Dominican professional baseball coach, and former second baseman who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1998 to 2003 with the Kansas City Royals. He threw and batted right-handed and was listed at 5 ft 11 in (1.80 m) and 185 lb (84 kg). He is currently the third base coach for the Boston Red Sox.
Harold Morris "Gomer" Hodge was an American professional baseball player, coach and manager. He appeared in 80 Major League Baseball games primarily as a pinch hitter for the Cleveland Indians in 1971. Born in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, Hodge was signed by the Indians in 1963, and spent the next eight seasons in the minor leagues. He joined the Indians in 1971, hitting four times in his first four at bats and becoming a fan favorite of the team. After a full season with the Indians, he was demoted back to the minor leagues, served as a player-coach for one season and, after retiring as a ballplayer, became a coach in the Indians organization. He then served as a manager and coach for teams in the Milwaukee Brewers, Montreal Expos, and Boston Red Sox organizations until his death in 2007.
William Edward McMillon is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) during six seasons between 1996 and 2004, for four different teams. As a player, he threw and batted left-handed, stood 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 m) tall, and weighed 172 pounds (78 kg). He is an inductee of the International League Hall of Fame.
Luis Felipe "Puchy" Delgado Robles is a retired professional baseball player who spent seven seasons in professional baseball, including part of a season (1977) in Major League Baseball with the Seattle Mariners. He played 13 games in his one-year major league career, and had four hits in 22 at-bats, with two runs batted in (RBIs). Over his minor league career, Delgado played for the Class-A Winter Haven Red Sox, the Class-A Winston-Salem Red Sox, the Triple-A Rhode Island Red Sox, and the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox in the Boston Red Sox organization; the Triple-A San Jose Missions in the Seattle Mariners organization; the Triple-A Omaha Royals in the Kansas City Royals organization; and the Triple-A Wichita Aeros in the Chicago Cubs organization. In 765 career minor league games, Delgado batted .261 with 729 hits, 89 doubles, 33 triples, and 17 home runs.

Joseph John Buzas was an American professional baseball player, manager, executive and entrepreneur. He appeared in 30 games in Major League Baseball as a shortstop and pinch hitter for the New York Yankees in 1945 during his ten-year active career before becoming an owner of minor league baseball franchises in 1958. Buzas would own and operate 82 minor-league clubs over the next 45 years, and was the owner and president of the Salt Lake Stingers at the time of his death. In 1975, he was presented with the King of Baseball award given by Minor League Baseball.
