David Gee is the former sheriff of Hillsborough County, Florida. He was sheriff from 2004 until his retirement on September 30, 2017, having worked in the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for more than twenty years prior to his election. [1]

Its county seat and largest city is Tampa.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is the primary law enforcement agency for Hillsborough County, Florida and is responsible for law enforcement services for the 888 square miles (2,300 km2) of unincorporated areas of the county as well as operation of the two jail facilities, a work release center, and provides courthouse security for the 13th Judicial Circuit. Each of the three incorporated cities has its own police agency. Tampa International Airport, and the University of South Florida also have independent police agencies.

Gee's tenure was a successful one: the crime rate in the county has fallen in each of the last nine years. [2] He has been praised for his office's "enlightened approach to homelessness", [3] but criticized for "traditional criminalization tactics for low-level offenses such as misdemeanor marijuana possession".
