David Stiff (born 8 February 1972) is an Australian former professional basketball player who played 15 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL). He won six championships with three teams to sit equal first for most individual championships in league history.

Career life

Stiff debuted in the NBL in 1992 with the Hobart Devils. He then had a three-year college basketball stint in the United States with the Boston Terriers. [1] Upon returning to Australia, he re-joined the Devils and played a further two seasons. After playing for the North Melbourne Giants in 1997 and 1998, he joined the Adelaide 36ers for the 1998–99 season and won his first championship.

He continued on with Adelaide for another three seasons, where in 2002 he won his second championship. Over the next two seasons, Stiff earned a personal three-peat as a member of the Sydney Kings' back-to-back championship teams. In 2004, he joined the Melbourne Tigers and won his fifth championship in his second season. In 2007–08, in what was his 15th and final season, Stiff won his sixth championship as a member of the Tigers. His six NBL championships are equal first for most individual championships in league history alongside C. J. Bruton, Damian Martin and Jesse Wagstaff. [2] In 453 career games, he averaged 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. [3]

Calvin Thomas Bruton, is an American-born Australian former professional basketball player and coach. He has been an integral part of the National Basketball League (NBL) since its inception. Bruton won an NBL championship with the Brisbane Bullets in 1985, was a two-time member of the All-NBL First Team while playing for the Geelong Supercats and was named NBL Coach of the Year while he was a player-coach for the Supercats in 1982. He also won a second NBL championship while coaching the Perth Wildcats in 1990. As a result, Bruton became one of the first inductees into the NBL Hall of Fame when it opened in 1998.

Martin Peter Cattalini is an Australian former professional basketball player who won championships with both the Perth Wildcats and the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL.

Trevor Gleeson is an Australian professional basketball coach who is currently an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He first coached in the National Basketball League (NBL) between 1997 and 2000 as an assistant with the Brisbane Bullets. After six years in the Continental Basketball Association and Korean Basketball League, he returned to the NBL in 2006 to coach the Townsville Crocodiles, where he was named NBL Coach of the Year in 2011. After a season with the Melbourne Tigers, he coached the Perth Wildcats between 2013 and 2021, winning five NBL championships in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020, and earning NBL Coach of the Year for the second time in 2021. The regular season was played between 7 October 2011 and 25 March 2012, followed by a post-season involving the top four in April 2012. The schedule was announced on 19 May 2011. The 1984 NBL season was the sixth season of the National Basketball League (NBL). With the Melbourne Tigers joining the competition, the league's number of teams increased to 17, with nine teams in the Eastern Division and eight teams in the Western Division. The regular season began on 3 February and ended on 17 June. The finals began on 22 June with the divisional finals before concluding on 1 July with the NBL Grand Final.

Scott Ninnis is an Australian professional basketball coach and former player who is the interim head coach for the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League (NBL). He won three NBL championships during his career: 1986 and 1998 with the 36ers and 1992 with the South East Melbourne Magic. Ninnis also represented the Australian national basketball team during his career. He coached the 36ers for two years and was an assistant coach with the club when they won the 1998–99 and 2001–02 NBL championships. He returned to the 36ers' coaching staff in 2023 as an assistant and was appointed as interim head coach midway through the 2023–24 season.

Sunday Dech is a South Sudanese-Australian professional basketball player for the Adelaide 36ers of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). He is a two-time NBL champion with the Perth Wildcats, having won in 2014 and 2019. Dech played NCAA Division II college basketball for the Metro State Roadrunners and Barry Buccaneers.

Jack Purchase is an Australian professional basketball player for the Melbourne Tigers of NBL1 South. He played college basketball for the Auburn Tigers and Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
