Dawn Fitzpatrick is an American investment banker and financial officer based in New York City. She is known for her work as a hedge fund manager and as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Soros Fund Management.

Early years

Fitzpatrick "is a second-generation Irish American with ancestors hailing from Kilkenny and Cork on her father's and mother's side", and is a native of New York. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. [1] While at UPenn Fitzpatrick ran track. [2] She is divorced with three children. [3]

Career

Fitzpatrick started working at O'Connor & Associates in 1992 and went on to become the global head and CIO of O'Connor within the alternative and quantitative investments area. In August 2013, when O'Connor became a standalone business area within UBS Global Asset Management, Fitzpatrick was promoted to global head and chief investment officer (CIO) at O'Connor. In January 2016, Fitzpatrick became the Global Head of Equities, Multi-Asset and O'Connor at UBS Asset Management, responsible for overseeing more than $500 billion in assets. [6] In January 2017, she became Head of Investments within UBS Asset Management. [7] She was also a member of the UBS Asset Management Executive Committee. [8]

In April 2017, Fitzpatrick became the Chief Investment Officer of Soros Fund Management. [3] She currently serves on the Open Society Foundations' Economic Justice Program advisory board, [9] the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Investor Advisory Committee on Financial Markets, [10] as a non-executive Director on the Barclays board, [11] [12] and sits on the Advisory Council of The Bretton Woods Committee. [13]

Fitzpatrick was named one of Business Insider's most powerful women on Wall Street in 2013. [14] In 2015, American Banker put her on their list of the 25 most powerful women in finance and The Hedge Fund Journal put her on the list of 50 leading women in hedge funds. [15] In 2018 and 2019, Fitzpatrick was on the Worth Power 100, a list of "the 100 most powerful men and women in global finance." [16] [17] In 2020 and 2021, Barron's listed her as one of the "100 Most Influential Women in U.S. Finance", [18] [19] and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Club of New York presented Fitzpatrick with the 2020 Joseph Wharton Award for Leadership "for the Wharton alumnus who embodies the highest standards of leadership in both business and society." [20]

O'Connor & Associates was a Chicago-based options trading firm, with a particular emphasis on financial derivatives. The firm was founded in 1977 by John F. O'Connor and his brother-in-law, Robert J. Creamer. In 1992, O'Connor & Associates was acquired by Swiss Bank Corporation. The acquisition was part of Swiss Bank's efforts to expand its options trading capabilities in the United States. At the time of the acquisition, O'Connor & Associates had over 500 employees and was one of the largest options trading firms in the world.

Brinson Partners was an asset management firm focused on providing access for U.S. institutions to global markets. The firm was founded by noted investor Gary P. Seitz is one of few women in the world who was leading a global asset management firm. She is, according to Barron's, one of the "most influential women in U.S. finance". American Banker lists her as one of the "most powerful women in finance." Prior to her role at Russell Investments, she served on the board of William Blair & Company and as chief executive of William Blair Investment Management.
