Diana Rouvas (born 29 January 1984) is an Australian singer-songwriter previously signed to Universal Music Australia. [1] In 2019, she won The Voice Australia , against Daniel Shaw. She was born in Sydney to a Greek father and Australian mother.

Career and background

Rouvas started vocal training at age four, and writing at age eight. [2] She was on stage at an early age performing, and relocated to the United States of America at 16 to pursue her music career as a singer-songwriter. In 2001, at 17 she toured with Australian artist Tina Arena as a backing vocalist, visiting France and China. [3] In 2006 Diana represented Australia in G'day LA celebrations in Los Angeles. In 2006 she recorded and released an original Extended Play titled Never Said Hello.

2012–2018: The Voice 2012

In 2012, Rouvas auditioned for the first season of The Voice , performing "Work It Out" and was selected on Team Keith Urban. [4] She made it to the final top eight. [5] Two of the songs she performed on the show reached the top 30 on the ARIA Charts. [6]

In October 2012, Rouvas released "Run" with Damien Leith. The song was the second single from Leith's fifth studio album, Now & Then .

Rouvas was signed to Universal Music Australia, and in April 2014, released the single "Heart of Goodbye" which she co-wrote with producer and songwriter Louis Schoorl. [7] An EP was planned but never released. [8] Upon her request, in 2015 Diana was released from her Universal Music Australia contract.

2019: The Voice 2019 and Eurovision – Australia Decides

In 2019, Rouvas returned and auditioned for The Voice (Australian season 8) and chose Team Boy George. On 7 July 2019, Rouvas was announced as the winner. [9]

Her debut single "Wait For No One" was released immediately after the finale on 7 July. The track failed to break into the ARIA top 500, shifting less than 800 units during its release week. [10] Remixes were released in August 2019.

In December 2019, Rouvas was announced as a participant in Eurovision - Australia Decides , in an attempt to represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. [11] Her song "Can We Make Heaven" finished 7th in a field of 10.

As part of the Idol franchise, Australian Idol originated from the reality program Pop Idol, which was created by British entertainment executive Simon Fuller. Damien Leo Leith is an Irish-Australian singer–songwriter. He was the winner of the Network Ten music contest Australian Idol in 2006. Since winning the title, Leith has released nine studio albums, four of which peaked in the top two of the ARIA Charts, including two number ones. He has been awarded seven platinum and one gold certification for albums and singles by ARIA, which equates to sales of just over half a million.

Australian Idol was a televised talent contest, screened on Channel Ten for seven seasons between 2003 and 2009. Several contestants were signed to record labels, while others released their music independently. Since 2003 Australian Idol acts have placed well on the Australian music charts, with 35 number ones and 158 platinum and 41 gold certifications. Eight Idol releases appeared in the 2000 – 2009 ARIA End of Decade Charts, and 24 releases have been nominated for Highest Selling ARIA Music Awards. Idol contestants have also been nominated for 33 ARIA Awards in public vote categories, where the nominees are most commonly selected from the highest selling acts of the year. There have also been 48 industry judged ARIA Award nominations. To date there have been 11 wins in sales and public vote categories, and in 2013 season one winner Guy Sebastian and season four runner up Jessica Mauboy became the first Idol contestants to win industry voted ARIA Awards.

Anastasios "Sakis" Rouvas, also known mononymously as Sakis, is a Greek singer, actor, and businessman. Born in Corfu, he won medals on the national athletics team during the 1980s before pursuing his musical career in 1991. Throughout the early 1990s, he was signed with PolyGram Records with whom he released five studio albums. Beginning in 1997, Rouvas signed with Minos EMI and released the charting albums Kati Apo Mena (1998) and 21os Akatallilos (2000). With her three entries from the German national final Unser Star für Oslo, Meyer-Landrut set an all-time chart record in her home country by debuting with three songs in the top five of the German Singles Chart.
