Digital Shoreditch is an industry-led community celebrating and promoting the creative, technical and entrepreneurial talent of London. [1] The collective, established in 2010, is a collaborative network for companies and individuals from across the digital sectors [2] and features year-round meetups, parties, conferences, trade shows, workshops, hackathons, festivals and other events, organised by Digital Shoreditch Ltd. Festival overview

Digital Shoreditch Festival was created as a platform for organisations across the creative and tech community. A broad spectrum of industry areas are represented in the festival, such as advertising, branding, broadcasting, production, film, music, gaming, design. [5] The purpose of the festivals is for companies and people with ideas to display their products and to connect to potential investors, and to act as a showcase to anyone interested in digital. [6]

History

In 2011, the festival was established by co-founders Kam Star and James Allsopp. The first Digital Shoreditch Festival ran from 3 to 7 May in 2011 and included a programme of meetups, talks, open studios, workshops and a one-day Summit held in Aldgate Conference Centre which attracted 300 participators. [2]

2012

Held from 21 May to 1 June 2012, Digital Shoreditch Festival became the single biggest digital community event in the UK with over 11,900 individuals, press and companies from the UK, Europe and the rest of the World.

2013

In 2013 the festival had over 14,500 participants and 536 session speakers. Participation was from 2,254 companies and 207 media partners and sponsors, making it one of the biggest tech Festival's in Europe in 2013. [7] [8]

2014

Digital Shoreditch held networking events in collaboration with partners to research and understand the needs of the growing, changing community, with the intention of delivering a strongly collaborative and highly responsive festival in 2015.

2015

The most recent festival for Digital Shoreditch took place within Hoxton Square and Shoreditch Town Hall on 11 to 24 May 2015. Numerous partnerships and sponsorships took place within the week from, City University London, Visa, Queen Mary University of London. [9]

Since 2012, Digital Shoreditch has previewed its festival as part of Hackney House Austin. [10]

East London Tech City Human settlement in England

East London Tech City is the term for a technology cluster of high-tech companies located in East London, England. Its main area lies broadly between St Luke's and Hackney Road, with an accelerator space for spinout companies at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

IdeasTap was a UK charitable organisation established to aid people in the creative industry at the start of their careers. The organisation offered a variety of free resources, including showcasing opportunities, workshops, funding, mentoring and advice and membership was free. Despite an outcry from the creative community, the charity closed in 2015 due to a lack of public funding available to support it.

Stage 32 Social networking platform for creative professionals in entertainment industry

Stage 32 is a U.S.-based social network and educational site for creative professionals who work in film, television and theater. As of August 2021, the global web site had more than 800,000 members.

InterQuest Group Ltd is a recruitment business that specialises within high growth areas of the new digital economy – information security, analytics, digital, telecom and technology. InterQuest Group operates across all industry sectors with a particular focus on financial markets, public sector and professional services.

An edit-a-thon is an event where editors of online communities such as Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, and LocalWiki edit and improve a specific topic or type of content. The events typically include basic editing training for new editors and may be combined with a more general social meetup. The word is a portmanteau of "edit" and "marathon". An edit-a-thon can either be "in-person" or online or a blended version of both. If it is not in-person, it is usually called a "virtual edit-a-thon" or "online edit-a-thon".

Creative UK

Creative UK is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the creative industries in the United Kingdom. The business promotes the development of creative companies, which in turn support business across games, film, creative and digital media as well as production services. The company works in partnership with the British Film Institute, has offices in Bristol and Salford, and operates predominantly outside of the city of London.

HackerNest

HackerNest is a not-for-profit organization and global movement founded on January 11, 2011. The organization unites local technology communities around the world through community events and socially beneficial hackathons to further its mission of economic development through technological proliferation. It is Canada's largest, most prolific technology community with growing international reach.

MTF Labs

MTF Labs AB is a Swedish company which runs labs, festivals and events to encourage cross-sector collaboration and innovation through creative work, particularly music.

Buffer Festival

Buffer Festival is an international digital video festival, held annually in Toronto, Ontario. The festival, founded in 2013 by Corey Vidal, Corrado Coia, and Samantha Fall of the ApprenticeA YouTube channel, showcases the talent of online video creators who have debuted their work on YouTube. Buffer Festival has been called "The Digital version of the Toronto International Film Festival" and "The World's first festival dedicated to YouTube content".

Kathryn Parsons British tech entrepreneur

Kathryn Parsons is a British tech entrepreneur. She is the co-founder and co-CEO of Decoded, a London-based tech startup which aims to increase digital literacy. Decoded's signature one-day course claims to train participants without any background in computers to "code in a day". The company is now a global brand hosting technology masterclasses in 85 cities across the world reaching 250,000 people face-to-face, as well as hundreds of thousands more online.

Nicola Mendelsohn British advertising executive

Nicola Sharon Mendelsohn, Baroness Mendelsohn CBE is a British advertising executive. Active in the advertising industry since 1992, she was named vice-president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Facebook in June 2013. In 2021, Nicola was named Vice President of Meta's Global Business Group. She is also a non-executive director of Diageo. The Daily Telegraph has called her "the most powerful woman in the British tech industry". She was named in Campaign magazine's Power 100 2020 list of top marketers.

Katharine Zaleski is the co-founder and president of PowerToFly, the platform connecting women, non-binary and gender nonconforming people with companies that care. She co-founded PowerToFly with Milena Berry in August 2014, after the birth of her first daughter. She was named one of the most creative people in the business community in 2015 by Fast Company.
