The Director-General(DG) is head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan's premier intelligence service, operationally responsible for providing critical national security and intelligence assessment to the government of Pakistan. Colonel Shahid Hamid had conceived the idea of ISI. He was later promoted to a two-star rank of a major general and became the first director-general of the ISI. [1] Robert Cawthome became instrumental in expanding the ISI and has been the longest serving director-general. [2]
The current DG of ISI is Lt. General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum since 20 November 2021.

General Abdul Waheed KakarNI(M) HI(M) SBt, is a senior officer of the Pakistan Army who served as the ninth chief of army staff, appointed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on 12 January 1993 upon death of his predecessor Asif Nawaz Janjua, he remained in office until retiring on 12 January 1996.
The Inter-Services Intelligence is the largest and best-known component of the Pakistani intelligence community. It is responsible for gathering, processing, and analyzing any information from around the world that is deemed relevant to Pakistan's national security. The ISI reports to its director-general and is primarily focused on providing intelligence to the Pakistani government.

General Khawaja Ziauddin Abbasi, also known as Ziauddin Butt, is a retired four-star rank army general in the Pakistan Army, who served as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), for few hours, until Chairman joint chiefs General Pervez Musharraf reasserted the command and control of the military despite his termination on 12 October 1999.
Brigadier Imtiaz Ahmed, SBt, TI(m), also known as Imtiaz Billa, is a retired engineering officer in the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers, and former spy, who served as the Director-General of the Intelligence Bureau from 1990 to 1993.
Zaheer-ul-Islam HI (M), is a retired Lieutenant-General who served as the 20th Director General of the ISI. He was appointed to the position on 9 March 2012 and began working a day after his predecessor Ahmed Shuja Pasha left on 18 March 2012. At the time of his appointment, he was serving as the Corps Commander V Corps. In 2012 Forbes named him as the world's 52nd most powerful person.
Ghulam Jilani KhanHI(M) SBt was a senior general of the Pakistan Army who served as the 14th Governor of Punjab Province and 11th Defence Secretary of Pakistan in the military government of President General Zia-ul-Haq.
Robert Cawthome was the co-founder of Pakistans' Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) and founder of the Pakistan Army Corps of Signals. He served as two star Major-General in the Pakistan Army and set up the ISI to become its second Director General.
Lieutenant General Asim Saleem BajwaHI(M) TBt is a retired Pakistani three-star general who served as the chairman of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority from November 2019 to August 2021 and the special assistant to then Prime Minister Imran Khan on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting from 28 April 2020 to 12 October 2020. On 11 December 2016, Bajwa was appointed as Inspector General Arms at GHQ, where he served until his appointment to the position of Commander Southern Command and XII Corps in September 2017. Previously, he also served as Director General of the ISPR from 2012 to 2016.

Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah NI(M) is a Pakistani army general and the current Chief of Army Staff since 29 November 2022. Prior to becoming the army chief, he was posted at the GHQ as Quartermaster general. He commanded the XXX Corps in Gujranwala from 17 June 2019 to 6 October 2021. He served as the 23rd Director-General of the ISI until he was replaced by lieutenant general Faiz Hameed on 16 June 2019. Munir received the prestigious Sword of Honour for his performance as a cadet in the Officers Training School, Mangla.
Faiz HameedHI(M) is a retired three-star general of the Pakistan Army and former spymaster who served as the 24th Director General of the ISI. He was commissioned in the Baloch Regiment having served as GOC 16th Infantry Division Pano Akil. He last served as Commander of the XXXI Corps before taking pre-mature retirement on 10 December 2022.
Lieutenant General Babar IftikharHI(M) is a three-star rank general in the Pakistani Army. He was the former 21st director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) from 16 January 2020 to 6 December 2022. He was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in 1990. He is the current commander of V Corps of the Pakistan Army which has its headquarters in Karachi.
General Sahir Shamshad MirzaHI(M)NI(M) is a four-star rank general in the Pakistan Army, currently serving as the 18th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee appointed to the post on 27 November 2022. Prior to his appointment as Commander of X Corps at Rawalpindi, he previously served as 35th Chief of General Staff until he was succeeded by Azhar Abbas.
Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum is a three-star general in the Pakistan Army and is currently serving as the Director-General of the ISI since 20th November 2021.
Muhammad Saeed is a retired three-star general of the Pakistan Army who served as the 37th Chief of General Staff (CGS) of Pakistan Army. Saeed previously served as corps commander of the V Corps and the 34th president of the National Defence University from November 2019 to November 2021, his previous staff assignments include Director-General Analysis of the Inter-Services Intelligence.
Lieutenant General Chaudhary Sarfraz Ali was a three star Pakistani general who was serving as Corps Commander Quetta since December 2020 and Commander of the Azad Kashmir Regiment since December 2021 until his death in a helicopter crash on 1 August 2022.
