The Distance State University (Universidad Estatal a Distancia) (UNED), is one of five public universities in the Republic of Costa Rica. It is in Sabanilla, Montes de Oca. UNED is the second university in number of students, and it is the largest coverage in the country. It has its own publishing house that produces textbooks that cover most of the needs of the university, as essayistic works, research, etc. This institution was created in 1977. Its first president was Don Francisco Antonio Pacheco Fernandez. [1]

UNED Research Journal

The university publishes UNED Research Journal, a biannual open access scientific journal. [3] It publishes academic research performed in Latin America, Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe. The journal is indexed in Scielo, [4] [5] Latindex [6] and Redalyc. [7]

It was created in 2008 through an initiative led by former UNED Research Vice-rector Katya Calderón Herrera.   Julián Monge-Nájera became its first and only editor. [8]

The first volume was released in January 2009 and since then the journal has published two issues per year. [9] The journal published a printed format up until January 2018, before going fully online. [10]

Education in Costa Rica is divided in 3 cycles: pre-education, primary education, and secondary school, which leads to higher education. School year starts between the second and third week of February, stops at the last week of June, it continues again between the third and fourth week of July and finishes between the last week of November and the second week of December. Preschool and basic education are free to the public. Elementary and secondary school are both divided in two cycles. Since 1869, education is free and compulsory.

The National Distance Education University, known in Spanish as Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), is a public research university of national scope. The university was founded in 1972 under the Ministry of Universities. It has headquarters in Madrid, Spain, with campuses in all Spanish autonomous communities. In addition, there are 14 study centres and 3 exam points in 13 countries in Europe, the Americas and Africa. Julian Monge Najera

Julián Monge-Nájera (born June 6, 1960, in San José is a Costa Rican ecologist, scientific editor, educator and photographer. He has done research with the following institutions: Universidad de Costa Rica, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, and Universidad Estatal a Distancia. His scientific work has been featured by The New York Times; National Geographic Magazine; the BBC; Wired; IFLoveScience; The Independent and The Reader's Digest, among others. He is a member of the Expert Panel that sets the Environmental Doomsday Clock; Onychophora Curator in the Encyclopedia of Life; and Team Member of the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

The Cabécar language is an indigenous American language of the Chibchan language family which is spoken by the Cabécar people in Costa Rica. Specifically, it is spoken in the inland Turrialba Region of the Cartago Province. 80% of speakers are monolingual; as of 2007, it is the only indigenous language in Costa Rica with monolingual adults. The language is also known by its dialect names Chirripó, Estrella, Telire, and Ujarrás.

Espacio y Desarrollo is an annual Peruvian peer-reviewed scientific journal of geography. It was established in 1989 and is published by the Centro de Investigación en Geografía Aplicada. The current editor-in-chief is Ana Sabogal. Espacio y Desarrollo focuses on environmental geography, linking physical geography and human geography. The Revista Colombiana de Química is an open access peer-reviewed scientific journal on chemistry published by the National University of Colombia. It publishes original contributions of applied and basic research on chemistry, including analytical, organic, inorganic, bio-, and physical chemistry. <i>Trabajo</i>

Trabajo ('Work') was a weekly newspaper published from San José, Costa Rica, from 1931–1947. It was the organ of the Communist Party of Costa Rica. Trabajo provided ample coverage of trade union activism. Moreover, the newspaper frequently reproduced proletarian poetry.

The Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas is a triannual peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal published by the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Sociedad Geológica Mexicana, Instituto Nacional de Geoquímica, and Sociedad Mexicana de Paleontología.
