Slint was an American rock band from Louisville, Kentucky, formed in 1986. Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet are a Juno Award-winning Canadian instrumental rock band, formed in 1984. They remain best known for the track "Having an Average Weekend", which was used as the theme to the Canadian sketch comedy TV show The Kids in the Hall. Although commonly classified as a surf rock band they rejected the label, going so far as to release a track called "We're Not a Fucking Surf Band", although they also later released a compilation box set titled Oh, I Guess We Were a Fucking Surf Band After All.

David Michael Riley was an American musician who was the bassist in the punk rock band Big Black from 1985 until the band's dissolution in 1987. Riley moved to Chicago in 1982 from Detroit, where he had worked as a recording engineer. He played on Big Black's two studio albums, Atomizer (1986) and Songs About Fucking (1987), as well as their Headache EP (1987), several singles, and two live albums. After Big Black, Riley recorded tracks with several other artists before being incapacitated by a stroke in 1993, losing the ability to walk. He became a blogger, and published a book in 2006 titled Blurry and Disconnected: Tales of Sink-or-Swim Nihilism. He died in late 2019 from squamous cell carcinoma.
Tar was an American post-hardcore band, formed in 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout their career they released four studio albums, two extended plays, and a number of singles before breaking up in 1995. They were known for their dry sense of humor.
Pride & Glory was a side project formed by vocalist/guitarist Zakk Wylde and White Lion members James LoMenzo and Greg D'Angelo. It was the first project for which Wylde also served as lead vocalist, prior to releasing his first solo-album, 1996's Book of Shadows. Wylde subsequently formed the band Black Label Society in 1998, which remains active.

Work Makes Freedom is an EP by Distorted Pony, released on September, 1991 through Bomp!. The EP was initially released as a 12" vinyl, however all of the tracks would later appear on the CD version of the band's 1992 album Punishment Room. Some versions of the record were single-sided, with the second side containing etchings of song lyrics.
Punishment Room is the debut album of Distorted Pony, released in 1992 through Bomp!. The CD version of the album contains the band's previous release, Work Makes Freedom. The album was recorded in early 1992 with the help of Steve Albini.
Instant Winner is the second album by Distorted Pony, released in 1994 through Trance Syndicate. By the time of the album's release, the band had already parted ways the previous year.
