Following college, Maggs played in the USFL for the Pittsburgh Maulers (1984) and New Jersey Generals (1985). [4] When the USFL ceased operations following the 1985 season, Maggs joined the Oilers. He was with the Oilers for seven seasons, 1986 - 1992, spending the 1987 season on the injured reserve list. He then spent two years with the Denver Broncos (1993 - 1994). [5]
