Donghee Industrial Co. Ltd. is a South Korean group of companies producing various automotive parts such as chassis, fuel tanks, pedal parts, sunroofs, axle housings and body panels. Donghee Auto Co. Ltd., one of its subsidiaries, co-manufactures the Kia Picanto in a joint venture plant with Kia Motors. [1]

History

Donghee was established in 1972 as Dongseung Co. Ltd. to produce automotive bumper and pedal parts. [2] In 1986, Donghee Industrial Co. Ltd. was established in Ulsan with the assistance of Hyundai Motor Company. A year later, Donghee formed a joint venture with German firm Webasto to locally manufacture sunroof parts as Webasto Donghee (formerly Korea Sunroof Co. Ltd.). Donghee Auto Co. Ltd. was established in 2002 as a joint venture with Kia Motors to manufacture the Kia Picanto in Seosan.

Outside Korea, Donghee has manufacturing plants in China, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, Russia, and The United States. [2] [3]

The automotive industry in Pakistan is one of the fastest-growing industries in the country, growing by 171% between just 2014 and 2018. It accounts for 3% of Pakistan's GDP and employs a workforce of over 3.5 million people as of 2018. Pakistan is the 35th largest producer of automotives. NLC signed an agreement with Mercedes Benz for the manufacturing of Mercedes Actros trucks in Pakistan. Pakistan has not enforced any automotive safety standards or model upgrade policies. A few old models of vehicles including the Bolan and Ravi continue to be sold by Suzuki. On 8 July 2021, Jolta Electric launched production of electric motorcycles.

Automotive industry in Vietnam is a fast growing sector, mainly reliant on domestic sales. All currently produced models are designed abroad by foreign brands, and many rely on knock-down kit production. Due to high import taxes on automobiles, the Vietnamese government protects domestic manufacturing. Although Vietnam is a member of the ASEAN Free Trade Area, automobile imports fall under an exception. Since January 1, 2018, the 30% import tax has been discontinued as part of ASEAN agreements. Currently, the Vietnamese motor industry is not deemed competitive enough to make exports feasible. As of April 2018, 85% of car sales in Vietnam were produced domestically from CKD kits.

Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC) is a Pakistani automobile manufacturer which is a part subsidiary of South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors. It is a joint venture between Lucky Group and Kia Motors. Kia Lucky Motors Pakistan has recently changed its name to Lucky Motors Corporation Limited in 2020 but it does not mean that both companies have ended their partnership.
