Nathaniel Donnell Abraham (born October 8, 1973) is an American football coach and former cornerback who is the current defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League (UFL). He was selected in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft. [1] In his career, he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1996–2001) and the New York Jets (2002–2004).

Life after football

After considering retirement since the 2004 season ended, he finally decided to do so on July 15, 2005. [2] Although he had two restaurant businesses going in South Carolina, Abrahams was searching for a post-playing occupation, and during his playing years he swore to himself that he would never become a coach. However, while on the sidelines of his oldest son’s youth football practice, a local high school coach, whose son played on the same team as Abraham’s, approached him about helping out his team. Before long, Abraham became the head coach at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg. [3]

Abraham guided Gibbs to its first district title in 2009 but resigned after a 3–7 season in 2010. He was defensive backs coordinator (2011–2012) at Tampa Bay Storm and later (2012) at East Lake High School. In 2013, he was the head coach of the Clearwater High School football team and resigned in 2015. [4] He was (2015–2017) the defensive coordinator at IMG Academy, in Bradenton, Florida. [5] On February 15, 2017, he was named defensive assistant coach for the Illinois Fighting Illini football, joining Head Coach Lovie Smith's coaching team. [6] [7] Abraham left the Illinois program in the summer of 2018.

In November 2018, Abraham joined Steve Spurrier's Orlando Apollos coaching staff as defensive backs coach. [8]

In June 2022, Abraham joined Anthony Becht's coaching staff as the Defensive Coordinator of St. Louis. [9]

Personal life

Abraham's son, Micah, played college football at Marshall and was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts.

Jeff Jagodzinski is an American football coach and former player. He was previously the offensive coordinator at Georgia State University. Jagodzinski served as he head football coach at Boston College in 2007 and 2008, leading the Eagles to a record of 20–8 and consecutive appearances in the ACC Championship Game. In 2010, he was the head coach of the United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks.

Bob Sanders is an American football coach. He was previously the defensive coordinator for the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football (AAF). He coached the Buffalo Bills from 2009 to 2012 after coaching for four years with the Green Bay Packers, four years with the Miami Dolphins and 11 years at the University of Florida. He was let go by the Packers following the 2008 season.

Hardy Otto Nickerson Sr. is an American former football player and coach. He played professionally as a linebacker for four teams over 16 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) from 1987 to 2002,. He played college football for the California Golden Bears. He was a fifth round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1987 NFL draft. Nickerson spent the prime of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The hiring of head coaches Sam Wyche and Tony Dungy allowed Nickerson to play in the middle in a 4–3 defense for both coaches; Nickerson played in a 3–4 defense with the Steelers. While playing in the 4–3, Nickerson went to five Pro Bowls, and was selected for the National Football League 1990s All-Decade Team.

Peter C. Kuharchek was an American football coach and former player, whose coaching career spanned over 40 years at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. He was the head coach for the Rhein Fire of the NFL Europe League (NFLEL) from 2001 to 2005, compiling a record of 24 wins and 28 losses. At the collegiate level, he most notably served as defensive coordinator at the University of Memphis from 1987 to 1989, and the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) from 1994 through 1995. Besides his tenure in the NFLEL — which also included stints as assistant for the Orlando Thunder (1992) and Rhein Fire (1996–2000) — Kuharchek worked in four other professional leagues — including the United States Football League (USFL), Canadian Football League (CFL), Arena Football League (AFL), and United Football League (UFL).
